MAN! Do I ever miss this event! We live just a few miles from KCR and used to get entertainment twice a year, sitting out in the yard listening to the big explosions and gunfire. The smoke plumes were pretty awesome too. I've been to both the Fall and Spring machine gun shoots several times over the years, but it had really outgrown itself, and it was getting super hard to park or to even get close enough to the gunfire to actually see anything. Here's hoping for a triumphant return someday soon!
I have been there once and tented there for the weekend. I experienced the fun, the smell and the mud. Was hoping to bring my son there in a few years..... I'm very sad now.
They have been doing it for 50 years and its a lot of work. Just tired of doing it every 6 months. The bet is they will pick it back up at some point in another way.
The coordination and execution of this event is nothing short of MASSIVE. I work in the stage industry and have seen all of the preparation it takes to put on a large event. Thunder Over Louisville, the Derby, Street Rod Nationals etc. all have huge teams of experienced professionals who make decisions and implement them to make the magic happen. The KCR Machine Gun Shoot just had the family that owns the place doing everything. That had to get daunting, despite the giant profits they had to rake.
They had a dshk 12.7 there that was really sick too but it must’ve not been on the line when this video was filmed. Little fat guy had that browning 50 with the stubby barrel shooting that incendiary ammo that really rattled your head too. 2021 was the first year I went and I don’t regret it one bit. Even forked over the 40$ to do a mag dump through a scar 16 sbr😁
I don't think Putin has much to worry about in Kentucky. Or the people of Kentucky of Putin. Actually, the people of Kentucky, sadly, have more to worry about from Brandon.

Caught Friday day and night shoots. Several guys were willing to burn out barrels, and the guy with the minigun spent about $3000 in ammo every cycle.
Over the years I was able to get down to the Creek for several of the spring and fall shoots. Always a day well spent. Saddly no more.
