I totally understand your point about needing to hear the ambient sounds around you. It’s important to have that sense of the real world. I have open domes, so I get some of the background. My battle with Bluetooth is mainly getting it to work reliably.

Totally get it and agree; I prefer to be 'aware' of my wider environment.

Hi April💗we both have something in common apart from hearing loss,I had normal hearing until I was in my early 20's and when I was 26 I got my first hearing aids! As for Bluetooth it used to help but I did miss what's going on around me! But since my hearing loss has got more profound I can barely hear a thing with Bluetooth!
So my honest advice to you would be try & hear as much naturally with your hearing aids & maybe less Bluetooth as the last thing you want is to lose what natural hearing you have left!
My audiologist said I may not think my hearing aids are doing much good but without them my auditory nerve(the little hairs in the cochlear) would slowly die! I don't really want to go down the cochlear implant route, here in the UK once you reach 18 your classed as an adult & they would only implant one ear which is stupid as we hear in stereo! But they would do both if I was under 18 or had really bad sight!
So do what's right for you! Be careful you don't have the Bluetooth turned up too loud or you risk losing what hearing you have got! You are lucky to have big brand names hearing aids but they can only amplify any remaining hearing 💖💖

The mix is programable. I think the standard is 70/30 bluetooth to ambient. I have one program that is 70/30 and I have a program that is 100% Bluetooth. I sometimes use that at my desk at work to block out the office noise while I am working.

Have you always had the starkey hearing aids? I have had the evolve AI IIC’s and hated them so much, they had a horrible quality both with on my own voice’s end and with all around. I like the RIC’s much better

My very first hearing aid was a Phonak. I only wore one. I've worn Starkey now for almost 4 years.

@@hardtohearit Oh. Which brand did you like better?

@@kaylasmusic hard to compare. Phonak I only had one. Starkey I wear in both ears.
I can hear with them and that's the main thing I care about.

@@hardtohearit ohh makes sense,.. i had phonak bte hearing aids when I was little then i never write them because I hated how they looked, didn’t particularly know any different when it came to sound quality but never would wear them at all except them i was forced to at school,.. then a year ago after a tympanoplasty surgery I’ve that was done and healed and had an updated hearing test, I decided i’d give the lyric a try, which i loovveeeddd the sound quality but unfortunately was not a candidate for quite a few reasons… then I tried the starkey IIC’s and I didn’t like them, hated the quality and didn’t like changing batteries, so then my audiologist had me try the resound RIC’s but the quality was reeaalllyyy bad and he couldn’t make it sound good no matter what he had done… then he gave me the phonak ones and they were amazing.. this made me learn my lesson,,. Never care about how it looks, Whatever helps you hear best and has the best sound quality is the most important

In line with Ronunderwood's comment, can you not have them set to hear ambient noise as well as Bluetooth? My sister has a TV bluetooth connector for her hearing aids, and with the help of her iphone app, she has two volume control sliders, one for the bluetooth device, and one for ambient noise. Hence she can choose how much or how little she hears what is going on around her.

I believe I can but then I find it too hard to balance it all. One of those things I guess I just have to play around with
