Really interesting position. I have noticed a trend lately of many mid/late game positions where moving a knight backwards has been a game changing move that is hard to see. Probably because on the surface, it looks like you are giving up space and an attacking position, but in the final analysis it shows there is a hidden strength to the new position. Knights are the hardest pieces for me to use and track well, which may be why I like the hippo and the emphasis on double fio b's.

Watching Nigel inspired me throughout the years, from the TV programme The Master Game in the late 70’s early 80’s to his WC qualifying and fight with Kasparov
Great vid as usual Solomon, you cover all the stuff I try to play 😂

Very nice analysis! Good game, too. It's nice to see this side of your games as well. :)
Keep up the good work, Solomon!

A great game, and another game that shows the resiliency and soundness of the Hippo opening. I been following several of your Hippo games in competition chess. I remember a Title Tuesday where you lost 2 games and drew against stronger players. And if I recall in all 3 games you had winning positions. Perhaps working on solving 4 - 5 moves forcéd mate puzzles with short time to solve may help you when you run into short time to find winning moves in your Hippo games. Hope that helps!!

Good suggestion Joe! Ya I feel pretty comfortable in those longer time controls but sometimes falter in the lower ones. Even today I played against Eric Rosen, had an advantage, and fumbled it. Just gotta keep getting better!

You and me both Solomon. I've played Nigel Short too! In a simultaneous exhibition in the late 1970s! He was already a rising superstar as a 13 or 14 year old and took on 20 of the best Bristol school players (I think i was 17th or 18th) and I was 16 or 17 at the time.
    Nigel just about won.
    OK, he won 19.5/0.5.
    I wasn't the 0.5!
Somewhere i still have the signed move sheet from the game.

I hope this helps maybe try the knight over the queen first if you think your going deal with the three pawns these situations are very close to what I do and I know there is between moves for you and I always put the knight over the queen at any level with assisted or not I still play the way I always played I'm just a chess player and hey look and use what you need no need to say anything back I really hope you find something and go to the top and make the top 3 out of all grandmasters all this is about trying to help some one for after I'm gone and as long as utube is there I hope they find it for them selfs to use❤😊

Very interesting. Short playing super aggressively as usual, which you got to respect. Could you have delayed castling or castled long?

Very interesting games. But not played with precision in opening. After b3,normal move is lb2,not castling.Very important rules in all hyppo position is-do not castling to early. You have choice,a casting on queen or king side.It is not possible in many standard opening.Hyppo have this flexibile choise in opening. But fight in this game is epic.

This game reminds me of I think it was Bobby who said any time a piece enters your half of the board you need to address the issue in some way. Ng4 f3 turns out to be Stockfish choice so I guess Bobby was right. Although I often castle early like you did I also like to not castle so it's a tough call. I'm guessing you castle early because you were playing Nigel.

Ne3 was definitely findable. Attack the pinned piece!
