@@concretegainz368 great video, i independently arrived at most of the same techniques as you. fyi a few tips: 1) since youre doing this on large scale, you may want to look into pond / immersion curing for your plates. keep your plates soaked in water for a few days, it should increase strength significantly. you can use a kiddie pool or a large basin to submerge the concrete in water for some days. 2) you can replace the steel reinforcement with chicken wire. make sure it has at least 1" holes, so that aggregate is allowed to pass freely through the holes. 3) if you want to be fancy, you can use metal pipe instead of pvc. the sound of the metal pipe as the weight is loaded onto a barbell sounds exactly like a real plate.
physicist here, it's actually a corner, it's a cylinder, it has 3 faces, 2 edges and 2 corners(2 places where 2 faces meet), it has no vertices, but a corner is not necessarily a vertice, the definition of google is: "a place or angle where two sides or edges meet".
Great idea and video. I’m amazed at how accurate your weights turned out. I thought if I tried this I would rig up a scale to double check the weight. Have you heard of Helix micro rebar? Would be a slick way to add reinforcement to the entire mix.
Good stuff, working with concrete is not difficult i'm a chef and it's a lot like making dough adding water to get the right consistency. Gonna make a barbell with pipe filled with concrete, can't think of anything else, entire gym will be handmade...hmmm, other people are gonna want that too...
Dude!! I was just thinking the other day that that making concrete weights and selling them cheaper than steel would be a great business idea. I’m psyched to see someone else thought that and is doing it! This is a great system you have. Nice job. I’m probably going to make some 45s for myself using your technique. I wonder if you could do a rubberized coating or a sealant of some kind to make them look even more pro
Awesome to hear that man, yeah you could totally add some kind of finish seal to the plates, that would be cool, however if youre working out in the grass outside I recommend no seal or paint because it tends to attract grass and dirt more easily than the plain concrete. Let me know what you find works best
ConcreteGainz yo dude I bought your ebook and made two 45lb weights so far. I was able to get them at 44.8 and 44.5 lbs which I thought was ridiculously accurate. Good job and thanks for figuring all that out. I’m going to try coating one with flex seal and another with linex and I’ll let you know how that goes
ConcreteGainz oh, and also this could be helpful for making your forms. Since glueing down the flashing is pretty tricky, I used a superglue with an accelerator (basically instant glue) called miterapel to glue it down before I sealed the edges with silicone and it worked really well
Hey thanks! They are all the same height and different diameters. All of the dimensions and steps to create the forms and plates are in the ebook. link: payhip.com/b/E7df
I’m curious - is there a way to create a polyurethane (or similar) plastic coating for these? Plastidip, maybe? Would that preserve them and prevent them from crumbling?
Hey Mark, yes you can coat them in various paints and protective sealers. I’ve done some like that and others just plain concrete. I’ve found that if using them outside it’s actually better to not coat at all. The sealer attracts more dirt and grass and the concrete doesn’t really chip unless you hit the edge really hard on something.
Hi i am interested in the diameter and height of the capsul you put your concrete in for the weights.(sorry for bad english it's not my first language.)

can you spray truck liner or something on it so it seals it? i can see them chipping, and slowly crumbling over time until they become unbalanced, maybe a plasti dip or something?
Yeah you can for sure do that, I've done it and also left some plain concrete finish for my personal plates and I haven't had any chip. Concrete only gets stronger over time as it continues to cure for up to a year.
My dad used to work both in construction and surveying, and he says the drier the concrete is/the less water you put in it the dry powder, the stronger the final product

@Milan D well I'm watching this cause I've made my own gym with concrete plates. No problems, I deadlift in 250 to 300 ponds area, though my plates are a bit thicker, I made them that way so they are tougher I don't care about measurements that much. Of course you better not throw them like some people do with metal plates, but it's so much cheaper
I you lift on a some kind of mat you should be fine. The wire structure inside should prevent them from splitting so the worst thing that could happen is that you get about 8 pounds inbalance on your way up.
Looks pretty good but I suggest weighing the dry mix then add water to the mix to get more accurate weight because 48.8 is not the final weight. after a month or so they’ll be a pound or two lighter once its fully cured
This is an awesome guide. I made the 10 pound mold to test out before I make the bigger ones. I had an issue where the pvc stuck to the jig. I couldn’t place tape around the jig because the pvc wouldn’t fit over but it fits perfect without tape. Could this be caused by some concrete getting between the pvc and wood essentially glueing those together? Everything else was smooth besides that but I think I will add a releasing agent to make it smoother. I also forgot to sand the pvc but will do that and see if anything changes. Got any tips? Thanks
Hey Zach, Thanks for the feedback, and I'm glad you like the book! As for the jig, the water from the concrete will seep into the wood of both the plywood and jig. This should not be a problem except if the jig is very close in size to the inside diameter of the PVC. The water will cause a slight expansion of the wood thus causing it to be stuck inside the PVC. The solution is to make the jig slightly smaller, let it have some wiggle room for when you place the PVC on it. The concrete drying on top or inside of the jig could potentially cause it to stick as well, but its by far not as big of a problem in general. Releasing agents are good to, they can definitely help, but are not always necessary. Hope you get some good weights!
Especially when Amazon jacks up the price of a 45 lb plate I got from Walmart for 39.00 to 109.00 to scam the buyers. Good recycle tip I use for weighted vest is I load 20 oz gatorade bottles with water and load them up in ammo pouches and My plate carrier gets about 40-50 lbs.
I've been doing deadlifts of 3-4 hundred lbs for months with mine and have not had any problems. I will say that I don't drop them or slam them down, you need to control the weight all the way but its a better technique and workout anyway to do that.

This is such a genius idea 👍
Thanks!
thanks a lot for this guide, great to see such help now!
Hi, great work! wanted to ask if you can make a video drop testing your weights for durability
Hey that’s a good idea. Will look into that!
@Mike Studmuffin Ha!
How much does it weigh? A decent bit
Hey man great work. Question are you still doing this? And how can I contact you for a consultation?
Very good thing bro to help others trough this video 😊😊
Yeah thanks
Proud of you! Keep on hustling
Thanks man!
I guest great for squats or press but im not sure for deadlifts or low back row if they re gonna stay solid from banging them on the floor
I've been doing deadlifts of 3-4 hundred lbs for months with mine and have not had any problems. I will say that I don't drop them or slam them down, you need to control the weight all the way but its a better technique and workout anyway to do that.
