I love this episode. Three whiskeys from Minnesota!!! The tasting notes make me want to try all three of them. I've heard that Studio Distilling also uses larger barrels or is moving to using larger barrels.
I looked up the Studio Rye and this is from their page... RYE MALT WHISKEY Rye malt brings a smooth spiciness while corn adds the right amount of engaging sweetness. The addition of smoked barley and roasted rye delivers a smooth, toasted finish with a note of dark chocolate. It's amazing how "spot on" you were with notes without having looked it up.
Found your channel recently after I tried Glenfiddich 12 for the 1st time. Since then I've collected Glenfiddich 12, Hibiki Harmony, Bulleit Bourbon, and Caol Ila 12. Loving everyone of them so far. Thinking of trying Bruichladdich Classic laddie next. Daniel you look like turbo Yoda from mighty car mods. Anyone ever tell you that? Maybe we should call you the Whisk(e)y Yoda 🤣.
I live in Ohio and have never heard of the Sycamore Bourbon. That Middle West Straight Wheated Bourbon is really good though. Some of Middle West's other products can be hit-or-miss, but they struck gold with that Wheated! Great reviews fellas!

Rex: You are talking about the fruit of the Osage Orange trees. Growing up in Kansas, we called them “hedge apples”. Farmers grew these trees as dense hedges to serve as natural fencing. They served as habitat for pheasant and quail which we hunted by flushing them from the hedges. Of course we routinely threw the hedge apples at each other, ending up sticky with the sap from the fruit. Haven't thought of those damned things for years.
Are there different grades of barrel quality? (Not talking about char level) maybe the big companies are getting the prime quality barrels and craft distillers are getting "seconds" and there's a defect in the wood that's giving off that nose? Could it be the barley choice 6 row vs 2 row? 6 row has more enzymes for conversion but is harsher in flavor.
Also bought some Spring Mill a year or two ago not knowing it was something hard to find, glad I've had it and will try and find it again. Shit was like drinking McDonald's sweet tea that's just a wee bit sour. Saved the bottle and use it to keep water cool on hikes. It carried over some of that bourbon flavor for months lol
Could you guys review the Glengoyne cask strength please? Interested to hear what you think. I live ten mins from the glengoyne distillery so this leads me to be somewhat biased towards it. Nice to hear a impartial point of view. Cheers guys

I have had one whiskey that may be what you're talking about. Copper Fox. To me it taste like tree sap. Is that kind of what you're describing? I'm wondering if that could be wood for the barrel that isn't properly seasoned. What are your thoughts?
Patience and precision really matters in coffee, being a barista i know it seems tedious to many people who just want caffeine but different strokes for different folks. In the end it will always taste better and it is so worth it! And I agree with Rex, the coffee he had was most likely South American and very possibly could have been El Salvador, Santa Ana, Guatemala, or Peru.

When you buy one of his bottles at the distillery, Rick will engrave it for you. Also, that's one of the really young batches of Sunken Bobber, I think. Waiting to see what the 4 year aged works out to be.
i just turnt 40..(Saturday) a thunderstorm woke me up so, as i took a new job this week what better thing to do than catch up on the channel...and continue drinking(birthday weekend). i have 4 new whiskeys in the house because, first day on the job i sought out the liquor store in the new town and bought 2 expressions of backbone or bonesnapper(whatever). then at the end of the week i acutely got a pay check for 2 days...MORE WHISKEY. i went back and got the single bottles of whipper snapper and auchentoshan american oak... i think i'm rambling

Middlewest is made in Columbus Ohio. Widely available here, I’m still surprised they haven’t gone Nationwide. Very good bourbon!

I went to the Middle West Distillery and tried that Bourbon, it's quite exceptional and that distillery makes great vodkas as well!

In Oklahoma it is the fruit of the bois d'arc tree commonly called horse apples (!?) or Osage oranges.

Love the Sliver Dollar City reference....I used to go there when I was a kid! The smell of the wood they used for EVERYTHING is very distinct....
Also, Isanti is pronounced eye-SAN-tee...where the SAN sounds like san in 'sand'.
