The advanced practicum that I'm referring to in this video is a year in doctoral programs where you complete your practicum experience in settings outside of schools (hospitals, private practice, etc.)!
Many doctoral-level school psychology programs will prepare their students to work in many settings and can prepare graduates to become licensed psychologists. Typically in a hospital, you'd be operating as a psychologist, and the role may really depend on the subspeciality! Some assess patients' emotional/behavioral needs related to medical conditions, provide consultation to a patient's medical team, or do outpatient care for patients. It really all depends!
@@Polkadotedbow It depends on how the setting (community mental health/hospital/etc) categorizes their psychologists. School psychologists who are licensed psychologists can apply for clinical positions, but the name of the position won't change based on your training. I used to work with someone who was trained as a school psychologist, but her job title was clinical psychologist because the role in that clinic was not school-based. But if you're working in a school, you wouldn't go by clinical psychologist, if that makes sense
Advanced practicum is definitely an opportunity to find your best fit! That's the fun part lol
I'm so excited to finally get to do it!
This is a great video. I had no idea.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
I am currently getting my masters in EdS in school psychology, my question is what is advanced practice ? 😊

Thank you for this video! what would the role of a school psychologist be in the hospital setting?

@@DocGirlRambles Thank you!
@GradGirlRambles how do you find them?
Does a “clinical” school psych tend to make more money?
It really depends. Certain settings might make more but I think it'll depend on where you live.
I thought it was a big “no no” to say you’re a CLINICAL psych if you’re only a school psychologist because not all school psychologists need a PhD
