Just found your channel a few days ago, love your approach to mechanics and ability to explain why things are the way they are. Thanks for the crash course, I’ll be attempting this with my 98. 👍🏼
Should measure every individual pushrod for 0 lash in case decks aren’t square or heads etc. then account for thermal expansion for adding length for proper preload.
Been following your build for a couple years. I'm super curious about the cam, what the power curve will look like? Will you be making a video showing a dyno tune and power curve numbers? Thanks! Keep up the racing, love to see you progress!
Thanks! If you don’t want to upgrade anything, all you need is the 243 heads which came on a few cars. C6 corvettes, gtos and c5 z06. I would at the minimum get new head bolts and head gaskets.
Love the c5 content. What wheel and tire set up are you running on your c6 wheels. I found some black powder coated c6 wheels on marketplace and i’m wondering if they’ll fit my 04 base model.
They’ll fit, you’ll want a 5mm spacer on the back, so make sure you have long enough studs. They’re just basic streets tires I think some cheap continental 285s in the back. My track set are 4 rear c5 z06 wheels.
@@LowBoostFilms Okay thank you! The ones i’m looking at are 245/40/18 fronts and 305/30/19 in the rears. Do you think i’ll have any trouble with the 305 in the rear? Are you on factory lowering bolts?
@@mijosgarage6253 I think you could fit a 305. Aftermarket lowering bolts but up all the way. The rub comes from the side of the fender well not the top. That’s why you want a spacer. You could run more than 5mm and it could fit even better. But you’re gonna want longer studs definitely
Not all 243s are ls6 heads ls6 heads have ss valves and stiffer springs. The 243/799 cast are a very good head. But they crazy thing is the best cathedral port head that make the most power hands down are the least favorite small valve 706/862s found on 4.8s and 5.3s I pulled my 243s off my ls6 last year for some shitty 317s on ls9 gaskets. Dropped my compression to 8.4 to 1.I can now run over 15psI on pump. and only 22 deg timing
I’m sorry, I didn’t have any extra help when I was doing that to film and it was hard to do it on a tripod. The trick is to put all of the timing cover bolts on, but don’t tighten them until after you have the balancer on. Everything seats correctly.
Good job 👍🏻 💯
Thanks! She’s a ripper

Thanks! I try my best to do that. I try to show any average person can do it!
Fyi you need at least 70 thousands of pushrod preload. Katech built my engine 12 years ago and still zero valve train noise
Yea I definitely need longer pushrods
This thing is gonna be fast coming out if them curves!
Gonna crush apexes!
@@LowBoostFilms let’s goooo🔥
You need to put some RTV in the keyway for your balancer if your crankshaft does not have a key. This will leak oil otherwise.
That’s a good point!

I’ll have to try that one of these days
Good stuff dude.
Thanks! I can’t wait to rip it!

Thanks for watching and following along! You’re in for a treat, Thursday is the full Dyno video breakdown! Stay tuned!!!
You have my like, I have question please, to do this head swap I only need the c6 heads or I have to order anothers parts and tanks the car sound nice

@@LowBoostFilms Thanks for the help 👍🏽
Those 243 valves are sodium filled also.
That’s right! Good catch
What size injectors are you running with this setup?
I’m still running the stock injectors, still well within the limits of them with this cam.
Where did u get the heads from
Facebook marketplace
how much hp gain? wanna knownif its worth for my auto 50th anni for power gains
It picked up probably 100whp over stock so I’d say so! I have a Dyno video on it

Only 22 degrees of timing? I don’t even run that much on e85!! On 93 my turbo LS lq4 is 14 degrees and 15 psi
@@LowBoostFilms oop's that was a middle of the night typo its 12 degrees lol
What's you compression ratio with 25 thousandths milled?
So stock LS1 is 10:1, stock ls6 heads would be 10.5:1. With them milled it’s now 11:1
@@LowBoostFilms Also what octane? And do you wish you went for higher compression
@@ryanlucascarrasco I run 93 octane. I’m fine with that compression. That way I can get away with running pump gas
You didn't show how to install time and cover plate and harmonic balancer how to keep it from leaking that's why I was watching this no help here 👁️
