Cleaning your reverse osmosis (RO) membrane is an essential part of maintaining its longevity and efficiency. Here is a step-by-step guide to cleaning your RO membrane:
Shut off your water supply and depressurize the system by opening a faucet.
Remove the RO membrane from its housing in the system and set it on a clean and sanitized surface.
Prepare a cleaning solution by filling a plastic tub with RO permeate or DI water and adding the recommended quantity of chemical cleaner. Be sure to follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer or chemical supplier precisely, taking into account dosage, temperature, pH-values, and contact time guidelines.
Slowly add the cleaning solution to the tank and turn on the agitator or tank recirculation pump to mix it thoroughly.
Allow the cleaning solution to circulate through the system for the recommended amount of time, typically between 30 minutes to an hour. During this time, make sure to monitor the solution temperature and pH levels.
After the recommended time has passed, drain the cleaning solution and rinse the system thoroughly with RO permeate or DI water. Be sure to flush the system for at least 15 minutes to ensure that all traces of the cleaning solution are removed.
Reinstall the RO membrane back into its housing and repressurize the system.
Run the system for at least an hour to flush out any remaining traces of the cleaning solution and to ensure that the system is operating correctly.
Finally, replace any cartridge filters in the system with new ones to ensure that the purified water is clean and safe to drink.
