I have the 2cyl cub cadet and the Walbro that was on it surged shortly after getting the rider 2 years ago. But it didn’t surge under load, so I ran it as is till it finally overflowed and filled every crevice of the engine with fuel. Rebuilt it (if you wanna call it that, too easy) and it still surged. Took it back off and got the Amazon cheap carb, and it runs better than the day I bought the piece of crap mower😂 How long it will hold up is up in the air, but I’ll stay busy replacing starters and spindle bearings on that thing. Not overly happy with cub cadet, but it does cut an acre 1/2 once a week, so it does take a beating. But seriously, the Walbro and Amazon carb are both made in china, Japan and some other country. So who knows what we’re getting anymore.
I’ve replaced the: Carb (with an OEM kohler) Fuel pump Fuel filter Spark plugs ( I have a kohler v-twin pro series 7000 engine) Air filter Battery Blades Oil and oil filter And the damn thing STILL SURGES! I have run out of ideas. Any tips would be great, thanks!
Did you disable the safety switch in the seat to keep the engine running while adjusting the carburetor? The moment I get off my seat, engine shuts off.
My parking brake does not seem to be working. Could you please do a video showing how to fix the parking brake on an LTX1042? Or maybe I am not setting it correctly? Maybe you could do a video showing how to properly set the parking brake on an LTX1042. Maybe I will just connect the wires underneath the seat...
Well, mine just started surging, but I can't find fault with engine. This is a Ford garden tractor that was purchased in 1990. Never have had any real problems, other than the little weird fuel pump. I have ordered new plugs and air filter. Checking fuel filter next, because it will run better if it is choked. I'm hoping it is something simple. I will look for the air/fuel ration adjustment and see if it has one. This is an 18HP Kohler. I know it also has an low oil safety switch, but it is only down a little on the oil.
Ethanol in the fuel nowadays ruins all the rubber gaskets, needle seats, etc in carburetors. Especially after that many years, it was only a matter of time. If I was you I would get online and buy a whole new carburetor, be sure the pictures match exactly to your carburetor, and install it because it's only a few dollars more than a rebuild kit. I actually quit small engine repair because once we got ethanol in our fuel I was doing carburetor rebuilds all day - everyday. Make sure your carburetor comes with a new intake to carburetor gasket as well. If that doesn't work most likely it's a head gasket but being that old it's most likely still good. Just try the carburetor first
I forgot to post that before you spend any money remove your carburetor first, then the bowl, and what I do is take my fingernail and strip all the plastic/paper off of a bread tie and run that through all of the jets in the bottom of the carburetor and wiggle them around to make sure to free any debris or gunk in there. All those Jets, which usually just two, will also get clogged with something. They're usually brass with a hole in the middle but cut out for a flathead screwdriver so you can pull it out if you want but be careful it is small and don't lose any parts
Well, update. Removed carb, and then removed bowl off carb. Bowl had a lot of crap in it. Used some carb spray and cleaned carb. Reassembled, runs fine! But new air filter and plugs are still on the way. Can't hurt to change them. :)
I have a weird problem with mine. The speed control lever moves up and down just fine with all the components underneath. Yet, engine runs at high speed only, regardless where the speed control lever is. In other words, it only has 1 speed, and it is high.
Cable does not connect to the carb, a stiff wire connects the carb lever to the linkage. Just like in your case here. Nothing got disconnected. @@TractorSalvage
Some of the carbs do not come with adjustment screws, so you have to look at the jet inside the carbs you get from China which are probably to small, They usually list a range of engines, like 15hp to 25hp, which the carb will most likely fit but to run correctly you need the correct size jets. Good video. Thank You...
Nice! This video helped me fix this issue on my mower! Thanks 😊
Would have been smart to show the actual surging behavior
do you use pliers to pull that black cap off or screw cap off?
got this same engine on my old cub cadet rider its the only thing on the mower that works still , it did love to go through starters tho

me too
Did you try adjusting it as shown in this video? Did you fix the problem?
Yes I made the adjustment as shown in the video and it fixed my issue. Thanks!

Check the cable wether the cable is connected or not to the carb, could have vibrated off
