There are several top level NCAA tennis players who have T1D, they also don't talk about. At least two I saw have tubing for insulin pumps. With the advances of pumps and CGMs that communicate with each other, it's no longer a disease that prohibits high level competitiveness.

So inspiring. I had no idea either, had only heard of an NBA player here or a football player there. I'm 2 decades older and have spent my life hiding in bathrooms to take my insulin, going too low or too high for fear of bothering people...
So I can only admire his courage for coming out, and his generosity for contributing to raising awareness. Thanks to this great champion on behalf of all future generations afflicted by this chronic disease!

So much respect Sasha. Never knew about your type 1 DM and your foundation. Best wishes for your career. You have it in you, just work on your inner dialogue. Change your demeanor. Ask Roger for help. You have come so far, don’t give up. Bless your parents for giving you this chance.❤
Sasha should oppose the late matches. Now I know why he expressed his concern about late match ending at 4 am at Acapulco last yr. This is not fair for any human being let alone a type 1 Diabetic with strenuous physical game. No wonder he lost the next match. I can totally relate what he is going through.

Really appreciate this video, which gives out hope to several people and children who live with Type 1 Diabetes. Just one request - kindly do not use the words 'suffering from' Type 1 diabetes, as you have in the description. This gives out a very negative vibe, especially to impressionable kids who might read it. The only reason kids with Type 1 would 'suffer', would be if they had lack of insulin, testing supplies or healthcare. Type 1 per se is not what's making them 'suffer'. Kids with Type 1 can and ARE thriving with the condition...Alexander Zverev being a prime example of this. Thanks 🙏

Hmmmm... he might be another case where it's a good thing that he's told that he couldn't do something. Some people just find it as motivation to push themselves and prove the naysayers wrong. I still recall Federer's story where a coach told him, I think, that he couldn't be good, or wasn't talented. Something that irked him. What did Federer do? Everyday, practice hitting a thousand balls.
Point is, sometimes it's a good thing to tell someone that they can't do something and similar. People can be motivated by something like that. It depends on how well you know the person, if you want to try such a tactic.
