Back then college was HARD! No BS classes like today! You were expected to put some serious learning in! $18K for 4 years is still pretty pricey even by 1962 standards, so she may have gone to one of the private co-ed colleges. The Ivy League schools like Harvard, Princeton, Dartmouth, Brown and Columbia didn't even admit women until the early 70s!
