Nice Job Vince 👍. When you were trying to re-assemble the motor, you can't put the motor together wrong as there's a little cut out in the metal housing, and square lug on the plastic part where the brushes go into. You can see it at 23:16
Don't let people hate Vince i have watched your channel now for many years the fun thing about your channel is going in blind and working it out as you go, there is loads of professional channels out there leave them to it and keep working out the faults while you work its what makes the videos so good, Have a great XMAS from a mega fan here
It sucks!!! :o) In a positive way!!! Brilliant repair Vince - amazing work keeping up with this schedule, it's like Christmas early!!! I swear you must have the cleanest, pumped up, toasted, grilled, washed, charged, flashing, spinning, jumping, house (the things you've fixed)!!! With excess of toasted snacks and popcorn to hand, with the worlds finest freshly ground coffee on tap in every room! Oh, and a selection of all consoles in each room to boot!
Hi Vince, they are 0.81p on Aliexpress under "Mabuchi 280 Motor FK-280PA-3734 Micro Carbon Brush DC 3V 3.7V 5V 22000RPM High Speed Hige Torque Strong Magnet for Toy Car Model"
The traditional manual impact driver did indeed have a hammer down effect. Because it worked by literally hitting it with a hammer. I still have one I inherited from my dad, I also have an air tool impact driver, but the modern battery ones are superior if maybe not as powerful at times. They only use the hammer effect on the torque.
I had a small engine shop for 15 years and those were my number One tools when working on old snowblowers. A propane torch and the manual driver. I learned to buy the tool at harbor freight but buy the bits at Fastenal. Many would be surprised that the old 1960-1970s ariens snowblowers are still out performing anything made in the last 20 years.
Great fix Vince, we have a karcha, which we use to get all the moisture off the windows inside in the mornings during the winter months, it works a treat. But Vince great work yet again.
After listening to that racket after you repaired that seized motor (incredibly loud) i decided to look for a review and see what it should sound like. To my amazement it was every bit as loud when new! Sounds exactly the same (even the exact same frequency of sound not even a semi tone out) so its a fix. The karcher can indeed be used horizontally and the motor also sounds quieter but both were equally good at drying the window of a shower screen.
That's the craziest high tech solution to a low tech problem I've seen in a good long while. I mean, for all the effort involved (getting it out, charging it, using it, emptying it, etc) you may as well just use a squeegee. Maybe a towel at the bottom of whatever window if you don't want the drippings going somewhere, but geez, what a complicated invention. A solution in search of a problem if ever I saw one. :)
Soon: you'll have to install an app on your phone to use this product, and it will provide statistics on how much you have cleaned and AI-generated cleaning tips.
Vince, i would suggest you take the machine apart and varnish the whole board with it, i have had so many problem with various ones and its all to do with water, since cleaning them and varninshing them all have been ok
I have the Kärcher one and after 10 years it still works as well as when I got it, although I don't use it much as it doesn't really save any time compared to a manual one. Another tip for waterproofing electronics is to melt paraffin wax over it. Basically the same as petroleum jelly but in a more solid form.
Very nice fix as usual Vince! However, I agree on the fact that a new motor is required here because even with the lubrication you did, I can already hear the motor bearings are not very healthy at all. And as this spins at very high rpms, it won't take long until it seizes up again.
I do have the Karcher version of this and it also is useless other than when being used vertically, and the capture tank is equally small. I would save your money and buy this version if you need one of these. Enjoying these fixes, thanks.
Baking soda and vinegar to clean that mould. Love your videos Vince more interesting when you dont research as it how I would tackle fixing or assembling something 😅
I have the Karcher one and to be honest it does suffer from similar problems. If you are not watching and the bottle gets full, sometimes you go horizontal you find water spits out violently. I bought mine in Tesco clearance for just £10 when RRP was £89, so a proper bargain. Mine has developed a strange intermittent fault after 3 or 4 years in that it won't respond and won't charge, until you remove the battery for a few minutes, then off it will go again. I've taken it apart and no water ingress and even bought a new battery and still plays up now and again. But it is still soldiering on and we use it several times a day to dry our shower to keep us mould free.
The motor can definitely be replaced, even if you don't find an exact one to one replacement. If it has the same dimensions and the same number of turns per coil (44T = 44 turns) you're probably okay. These cheap brushed DC motors are a dime a dozen and the voltage ratings on them usually don't mean much, so as long as the voltage rating is higher (e.g. 6v or 9v) it will probably work just fine.
Wow, that thing is loud. Funny thing, I was working with an oscillating tool as I was watching this and I turned the tool off and the noise it makes was still going.... then I realized it was this window vac you were using that emits the same sound.
The gold standard to seal a rotating part against a stationary part is a dubbele lip seal. Second best, a single lip seal. After that comes packing it with grease 👍
The bearing is typical of small motors. It's probably made from phosphor-bronze which is hard wearing. These bearings are usually sintered, meaning they are compressed from a powder, and are thus slightly porous on a microscopic scale. This allows them to retain a lubricant. So a drop of oil, 3-in-1 or even sewing machine oil, would not go amiss in an attempt to prevent it seizing again.🙂 PS it doesn't make any difference but you can see a notch in the case and a lug on the plastic. Since the brushes aren't removable then the motor will always rotate according to the power leads polarity. The brushes are made from carbon and they do develop a leading and trailing edge in use. Reversing such a motor is not advisable as this can damage the brushes as they jam in the commutator slots. It doesn't matter with such a low voltage low power motor but on higher voltages this can cause arcing, known as tracking, over the commutator causing further damage to the motor from sparking. PPS I bought one from Asda for about £18 and I think it's great value. Also if you were to find out all about these things before you attempt a repair I think your videos would be far less entertaining. Keep up the good work🤞😀
Could be solved in the bottle? An esophagus, a rubber flap that only triggers when the air pressure is running, really the solution is basically making the collection bottle water-tight.
The way to solve that leaking problem is to have the suction and the water separate with a one way pressure valve so the water tank is completely sealed.
NOTE: neon is not incandescent the way incandescent is used to describe a energized filament light bulb. You see there is no filament crossing the length of a neon bulb or tube. In a neon it is the gas itself that is energized to the result of being luminescent. In an incandescent bulb it is the filament that is energized to luminescents.
Searching on AE for “dc motor 280” seems to give a reasonable number of matches at a range of voltages but the case type (FFA) means (F) flat shape + (F) precious metal brushes + (A) not sure .. but probably not waterproof 😀👍
Like others have said the melting point of Vaseline is far too low , it then turns to liquid and runs away from where you want it. Dielectric or silicone grease has a much higher melting point. I tried using Vaseline on some PCBs in solar lights and it all just melted and ran out of the casing.
I did, a Karcher one with a loose fan. I can't remember what it looked like on the inside though. I think it was part of a job lot fixing frenzy style video 👍
Hi Vince, love your content and this Christmas series is great too. Can you answer why you never use and electric screwdriver? Watching you under those initial casing screws.
Another product from the ministry of crap design. For the difference in price the Karcher is obviously the better option. But it isn't about the product it's about the fix and yet again another success story. Well done Vince, really enjoying these advent videos.
Think the motor case only goes together one way as there is only one notch in the metal and plastic on one side. Also i think it's a bit of a gimmick as a manual squeegee is better as there is no need to collect the water really in any sinarrio in my opinion.
Has Wera Tools not sponsored your videos yet Vince? Would be nice if they supplied you a new set of long reach tools so you can easily access the deeper screws! I had to buy a Wera Torx TX15 (80mm reach) that i didn't have already, to access a faulty Karcher Pressure Washer screw that was the only one that was deeper than the rest...
I've watched to the end and I still don't understand what that device is... It's a vacuum cleaner for water on your windows? Is that a thing people use or have?
I got a suggestion in regards to your video titles my mate Vince. Instead of used titles be more specific to what is being fixed in the video, Example for this video: Window Vac repair Christmas Fixation... Like that the TH-cam viewer can find your video if he wants to fix his Window Vac. Hope you get my point
they would need to look to the washing machine industry to fix the problem that they solved many years ago but then they wouldn't be able to sell you the newest model with 5% extra run time lol, yes it makes a difference because the case is keyed to the base. What is with your massive misappropriation of cookware, i'd love to be your neighbour "Love! Love, his washing the widows with a saucepan now!" lol Only upgrade to your fix would be maybe a washer over the spindle made from neoprene or maybe a bit off an old cutting or solder mat, glue that inplace and push the spindle through it to create a self healing seal around the spindle, and speaking of spindles, is that your pot of vaseline Vince? seems very large and suspiciously empty!!
I bet the warning labels was added after they got plenty of warranty claims. Add a label and refuse warranty. Cheap solution to make a profit from a badly designed product.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
As a former skydiver, that is my favorite saying!
Nice Job Vince 👍. When you were trying to re-assemble the motor, you can't put the motor together wrong as there's a little cut out in the metal housing, and square lug on the plastic part where the brushes go into. You can see it at 23:16
Window Vac, for when you want to clean a window and wake up everyone in the neighborhood. ha. Great video.
Don't let people hate Vince i have watched your channel now for many years the fun thing about your channel is going in blind and working it out as you go, there is loads of professional channels out there leave them to it and keep working out the faults while you work its what makes the videos so good, Have a great XMAS from a mega fan here
The troubleshooting and discovery is pretty much the definition of this channel... and why most of us like it
Don't change Vince. We are here because you dont know it all or pretend to. We should all give you respect for that as you are our Mate.
It sucks!!! :o) In a positive way!!! Brilliant repair Vince - amazing work keeping up with this schedule, it's like Christmas early!!! Yep, never use Amazon for electronic components, ebay or aliexpress
The motor was keyed, so you can't get it wrong. Love watching advents keep at it 👌
Thank you, I never noticed that 👍👍👍
When you put the motor back together, it could have only gone one way, as the motor body was keyed to the terminal plate.
Regardless, even if it wasn't keyed, it can't possibly make a difference to the function of the motor. I'm not really sure why he thought it would.
I was a bit like "come on Vince, please see the key"

What a great little fix! You really cleaned up on this video. Best wishes from the USA!!
Great fix Vince, we have a karcha, which we use to get all the moisture off the windows inside in the mornings during the winter months, it works a treat. But Vince great work yet again.
Well it’s fixed but blimey that’s a helluva racket, this is turning into a really great series, bring on tomorrow!
Shock though I looked for reviews of a new one and it sounded exactly the same! It was spinning at exactly the same speed.
Vince’s wife says to the neighbour,,, “ Ten years I’ve been asking him to clean those doors “ 😂😂😂😂😉😂😉
I'm really enjoying these daily doses of Fixes. Nice one Vince. I think that vac could double as an air raid siren though 🤣

So very true 👍
It was a good fix but I was looking for a bunker with that air raid siren lol.
I well wish you a Christmas my mate Vince 🎅🎄🤶
here for Day 11, thanks Vince!

This is my calendar this year. 😊
At first glance, I thought the handwriting on the box said “Farty”
I mean, they weren't wrong.
Baking soda and vinegar to clean that mould. Love your videos Vince more interesting when you dont research as it how I would tackle fixing or assembling something 😅

26:00 Good ol' Vince, using the wife's best cutlery! I'd love to see the look on the face of whoever uses that fork next 🤣

25 o'clock everyones favourite time of day
Lubing the shaft is paramount! 😉
A small bench vise would be a good addition to your kit
We are blessed
Wow, that thing is loud. Funny thing, I was working with an oscillating tool as I was watching this and I turned the tool off and the noise it makes was still going.... then I realized it was this window vac you were using that emits the same sound.
Normally hate music in the videos but today it was appreciated. Rufus Wainwright my guess
Watching all your advent videos and enjoying them.
thats vince's window cleaner out of a job 🤣🤣
The gold standard to seal a rotating part against a stationary part is a dubbele lip seal. Second best, a single lip seal. After that comes packing it with grease 👍
Yes 1st in likes after all these years 😂 GREAT AS EVER VINCE
i swear Vince, you have an obsession with Vacs
Buying tools never ends. 😅 I need to get a spot welder ;s One with power, like you said about this one in another video a while back.
i would suggest using a bit of grease on the end of a toothpick instead of the 3 in one oil :)
The bearing is typical of small motors. It's probably made from phosphor-bronze which is hard wearing. These bearings are usually sintered, meaning they are compressed from a powder, and are thus slightly porous on a microscopic scale. This allows them to retain a lubricant. It would be interesting to see whether Karcher has resolved the water issue.
Can always some ky jelly to waterproof it 😂
Nice fix Vince those as well as the Karcher are designed to fail
Could be solved in the bottle? An esophagus, a rubber flap that only triggers when the air pressure is running, really the solution is basically making the collection bottle water-tight.
The way to solve that leaking problem is to have the suction and the water separate with a one way pressure valve so the water tank is completely sealed.
I wouldnt be surprised if karcher has a patent on their product preventing copycats from horizontal use.
Hi Vince, what is the brand/model of your trousers? I always find them well cut, thanks
Thank you 👍👍
If I had this item and it wasn’t working I would send it to My Mate Vince as I know he can fix it. LOL.
It makes a bloody racket 😂
Searching on AE for “dc motor 280” seems to give a reasonable number of matches at a range of voltages but the case type (FFA) means (F) flat shape + (F) precious metal brushes + (A) not sure .. but probably not waterproof 😀👍
23:14 - Can you now see that this can only be put together in one way? The cutout on the metal housing is only on one side.
Like others have said the melting point of Vaseline is far too low , it then turns to liquid and runs away from where you want it.
Dielectric or silicone grease has a much higher melting point. I tried using Vaseline on some PCBs in solar lights and it all just melted and ran out of the casing.
Cheers Adam, haven't heard from you in a while. I hope all is well 😎
I'd save even more money and buy a squeegee and a cloth. A chamois leather if I was feeling extravagant.
Didnt you fix a windows vac before? I wanna say I remember you doing one.
The motor bottom has a cut out in the metal and a out crop on the plastic so the motor can only be put back one way
I didn't see that. Thanks for commenting 👍
actually curious if it would work just as well without the suction working just like a squeegee HAHAHA
Karcher versions have similar issues - least mine has. Had x3 replacements from them. Maybe the newer version fixed the flaws though
Sounds like the "fan" is hitting the frame.
What a terrible design! You could try white vinegar on the black fluff.
They're on Aliexpress, 10pcs for £4:10p
I need to look again, I couldn't find them!!! Thank you
Another product from the ministry of crap design. For the difference in price the Karcher is obviously the better option. But it isn't about the product it's about the fix and yet again another success story. Well done Vince, really enjoying these advent videos.
Look for a FC280 dc motor on AE.
Think the motor case only goes together one way as there is only one notch in the metal and plastic on one side. Also i think it's a bit of a gimmick as a manual squeegee is better as there is no need to collect the water really in any sinarrio in my opinion.
I must say - that is a minuscule amount of water it can take
Has Wera Tools not sponsored your videos yet Vince? Would be nice if they supplied you a new set of long reach tools so you can easily access the deeper screws! I had to buy a Wera Torx TX15 (80mm reach) that i didn't have already, to access a faulty Karcher Pressure Washer screw that was the only one that was deeper than the rest...
A modern impac driver works exactly the same as traditional impact driver so vince you was not far wrong. Have great Christmas.
Good fix. Though a bit noisy. A normal blade is better.
You could have stuck the bearing in with lock tite.
Hi Vince, can you please let me know what spot welder you are using in this video? Thank you.
it needs a water/oil seal on the shaft like a washing machine
In this case I think the manufacturer should have just glued the thing shut to prevent this kind of damage.
17:40 Bubbles in the detergent are a bigger problem
I've watched to the end and I still don't understand what that device is... It's a vacuum cleaner for water on your windows? Is that a thing people use or have?
I think it wins the award for highest dB rating relative to the simplicity of the task 😅
Where did you get or what are the specs of the spot welder?
You need some light machine oil.
Hi Vince. Can you say which phone you use in your videos, the one in the brown leather case? Thanks.
I like the Advent Calendar style of not knowing until the vid is opened.
@AcornElectron Yes but just reference for future viewers who might have a problem with something and looking for how to repair on TH-cam
He did this way because it's an Advent surprise 🎄✝️🙏
Now that sucks lol
This is the most useless device that you've ever fixed. Even worse than the rubber guy on the loo. 😆
Vince, what happened about the seized bearing you removed from the motor shaft, I didn't see you put it back in?
He spot welded it into the motor casing
they would need to look to the washing machine industry to fix the problem that they solved many years ago but then they wouldn't be able to sell you the newest model with 5% extra run time lol, yes it makes a difference because the case is keyed to the base. What is with your massive misappropriation of cookware, i'd love to be your neighbour "Love! Love, his washing the widows with a saucepan now!" lol
Only upgrade to your fix would be maybe a washer over the spindle made from neoprene or maybe a bit off an old cutting or solder mat, glue that inplace and push the spindle through it to create a self healing seal around the spindle, and speaking of spindles, is that your pot of vaseline Vince? seems very large and suspiciously empty!!
Motor still sounds knackered Vince but good video anyways .
It does but I looked at reviews of a new one and sounded identical
I want to know who fitted that carpet because the corners wrong and the skirting up from it is also wrong.
Why are the holes in the canister in the middle?
I bet the warning labels was added after they got plenty of warranty claims.
Add a label and refuse warranty. Cheap solution to make a profit from a badly designed product.
i thought that said farty at first in stead of faulty
This a copy of the karcher handheld window blade
the 2 slots on the top of the motor are to insert a little tool to seperate the brushs so that the motor can go in easyier ( i use a pair of tweezers to do it ) ,and i wouldnt use vasiline as a grease it goes all runny and has protrolium init which may catch fire ,use silicone grease instead .
I don't think it's user error, I just think it's bad design, the fill level is way too low, and the bearing is not protected at all, causing the motor to rust.
I think the microcontroller is using some type of current sensing to know when the motor is drawing too much power (so it's not moving).
Edit: it does not matter how you put back together the motor, the magnets have the same polarity and the inductance change polarity thanks to the brushes
Edit 2: I have now tried writing about motors on the comment section 3 times, I give up, youtube won...
Name of song?
should have cogs or belt and the water far from the motor
900k 👍🏻
Jeez, that sounds horrible, like a piece of the blower is hitting against the inside. Maybe the bearing went back in slightly angled?
Nope it sounds the same as a new one! I watched a review of the new one to see how it should sound and noise was identical. Hard to believe but true!
