Nice vid. Enjoyed it very much, thank you. Recently bought an '06 Z4M roadster, coming from a '19 Corvette Grand Sport. The Vette is an awesome car, and I wish I could keep it forever. But if I'm being honest, it was too much car. The M has a rawness, and imperfect balance that will bite if you're not careful. And I love that. Granted, the Chevy LT1 is bulletproof and if something ever goes wrong you can fix it with a hammer. This is my first foray into used Bimmers and um, yeah. Maintenance costs are a wee higher than I'm used to.
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed! Really interesting what you say coming from a 'Vette! I always saw them as similar takes on the same concept Like you say, can't beat the fixability of the typical Corvette engine and you have a behemoth under the bonnet, but the Z strikes me as a raw alternative that loves to be manhandled but will also bite very quickly if you poke it the wrong way. They can certainly add up in the maintenance stakes but are fairly solid once you look outside of the rod bearings, throttle actuators that need servicing at higher mileages Some great improvements that I made to my last one were the Turner monoball control arm mounts, front strut bar, more aggressive rubber all round and an afe (or aventuri) intake, made it sharper and a little more aggressive :) - Oh and the all important Clutch Delay Valve delete. I've been lucky enough to have driven a few with KW clubsport suspension setups which really transforms them from wild to seriously performing track beasts
Yeah I have a 2007 Z4M in red, in the flesh it really does look like a statement of design. I always felt that the interior was just that bit too plain. In my garage I also have a R171 SLK55 AMG, and as i get older I enjoy how easy it is to just listen to that big V8 in a car. I love them both, they both make me want to drive them every chance I can, just for the experience of really feeling alive...
Ive gotta say, the SLK55 is one AMG that I have always loved. I hear you in the plain interior, i find if you have interesting coloured seats it helps but in a wierd way the simplicity adds to what is great about the M. At any rate you've hit the nail of what great cars should all do. Make us feel alive!
