    Canon continues to let down photographers who have invested in their brand. They produce a range of camera bodies in the RF mount but most underperform or are deliberately crippled when a simple firmware upgrade would make them much more useful. They do this to entice you to buy the next newer camera. They refuse to authorise third party RF autofocus lenses and instead offer ultra expensive professional lenses or plastic over priced telephoto and kit lenses that aren't weather sealed, have small apertures, suffer from focus breathing, vignetting and distortions that have to be corrected in camera or in post. They often don't even have a lens hood. Don't get me wrong, I still like the Canon R5 but my photography suffers a bit from not being able to afford the L series lenses. Good lenses in the EF mount range are still available in the used market place, including third party lenses, but they don't work as well or as quickly with the autofocus. I am seriously considering jumping ship to Sony.

      Well, you answered your own question. "not being able to afford the L series lenses.". You're not the target market. Switch to another brand. The fewer ppl use Canon, the earlier they will exit the photography market.

      I complete agree on Canon holding back.
      I have the R5 and use Sigma art lens and the Sigma 24-70 and the last 70-200 non mirrorless, and they are quick, responsive with fantastic sharp image quality.

      No third party lenses until there are. The long wait is what is frustrating but switching brands is a very expensive endeavour. Perhaps EF it until the announcement happens. If you are willing to stick it out, consider waiting another two years. We might have to wait no more than one year, but even then, it takes time to ramp things up.

      Photo side they are doing good. Most of the images you capture are damn near the same between brands and the AF/ low light is pretty good seeing that 4 years have gone by since the R5 while everyone else has made newer cameras.. Video side they are lacking. They have no real good full frame cinema options compared to Sony. the c500 mkii is way too far out of most people's budgets. if you cant afford RF glass get an adapter an still met most of the same functionality and image quality. You do know that brands like sony, red, and black magic have many people that adapt ef glass and still get the job done.

    102 MP stacked sensor (options for 64 and 32 MP raw /jpeg sizes)
    5 fps is enough
    good autofocus
    native ISO 50 up to 12800
    rear screen like Sony A7RV and Panasonic S1H has
    IBIS
    dual card slots
    no video at all (leave it out for heat management and there's better video cameras already out there)
    full weather sealing
    R5 / R6 Mark II form factor (no R3 or R1)
    high res mode that records also RAW!
    14 or 16 bit photos
    9,44 M evf
    live comp, like what Olympus has

    For all you've said. Most would only benefit the video people. As a Stills photographer. Better low light/Better auto focus/ Better dynamic range. I don't think that's enough for a "Stills Photographer" camera. It needs a higher MP to keep up with Sony at 61mp. As Canon hasn't brought out anything to compete with that. The R1 won't either. No matter what, Canon is bringing out a camera that's lesser than the Sony. For Commercial Photographers that don't need anything you've talked about. We're still left with a Canon 5DS R that when you nail everything gives a better image to work with. They've pretty much eliminated commercial photography from their line and are working on eliminating the "Still Photographers" too. Pushing us towards a MF camera. They had came out and said they'd be a leader again. They keep going down the old path and not leading. The R5 was a great camera. The R3 was a waste of time off the R1 and a DS R replacement.

    45mp bsi stacked sensor...is still lagging behind the competition. Z8 is a year old now...and it was using the sensor from a now 2 year old camera (Nikon being smart and cannibalising parts to cut the cost of production down).

    • @OrdinaryFilmmaker
      @OrdinaryFilmmaker  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      So we are behind, agreed, but Nikon was behind Canon for three years while the R5 was out. A company can't always be on top Dave. It up to Canon to take the crown back and leapfrog the Z8 as the R5 leapfrogged Nikon.

      @@OrdinaryFilmmaker true, true. It's not only that though - Canon's anti-competitive moves against 3rd party lens manufacturers has left a lot of bitter taste amongst once loyal consumers. Amongst other things, Canon's arrogance like no battery grip for the R7 and R10 are prime examples that Canon thinks that they know better than the customer and they are treating us with utter disdain. Companies only learn from these types of mistakes by losses of sales. Big losses.

      @@OrdinaryFilmmaker I think Canon has arrogantly played on people not switching due to the financial loss involved...most photographers buying gear are amateurs, and most have a single lens - for this majority, the loss to switch is not great. For people like me, with a lot of lenses, it's not feasible.

    • @davepastern
      @davepastern 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TigerWould2 sure, many will just keep their old EF lenses and adapt. But these are all film lenses, whose optics aren't well suited for FF sensors, and optical designs have vastly improved over the past 30 years. There is benefit to be had in newer, more modern lenses. With Canon's limited and very expensive offerings, 3rd party lenses would be a boon to Canon RF mount users . And we are being denied that, by what is clearly a monopolistic and anti-competitive move by Canon. As I have said in the past, patents were never legally designed to stifle competition.
      You can't adapt 3rd party battery grips for the R7/R10 due to the internal design of these cameras. You can physically fit a 3rd party battery grip, but it doesn't have all of the electrical capabilities. It is not a matter of Canon making their R7/R10 grip compatibility and allowing 3rd party manufacturers to make them, and Canon just admits that they're losing money etc and they exit that part of the market. Canon has DELIBERATELY constructed the R7/R10 so that 3rd party competitors cannot manufacture fully functioning battery grips. Again, another anti-competitive move.
      Canon is turning out to be a very desperate company, relying on technology lock in to keep customers and killing any 3rd party competition.

    Has anybody who says that 45mp is not enough because the competition has a bigger number, have they been able to look at real prints made up to at least 20x30 from 45mp and any of the bigger numbered competition and been able to look at them on display from a normal viewing distance and been able to clearly and consistently point out which is 45mp and which is higher?
    The mp race reminds me of the horsepower cravings in motorcycle development.
    The everyday consumer forgets about usability when they see numbers on a spec list between manufacturers.
    A bike may have higher horsepower, but isn't a better bike if a lower horsepower bike has more usable power, allowing the rider to exit corners more smoothly and end up riding faster around the track.
    Can your eyes tell in a print, given that software is important to digital photography also and is being developed right along with the mp race, that 61mp is giving you a better poster than the 45mp?

    But as I reacted earlier, I'd rather expect (and hope for) dual CFxB instead of Gen4.
    Since the R3 was released, your Angelbird friends actually made the CFxB cards providing much more value for money compared to the SD cards. And Gen4 speeds are more needed when reading the data compared to while shooting.
    Giving the R5ii dual CFxB cards now will not cast a larger shadow over the R3 than the R1 will do. It would also open the door to give the R7ii and R6iii their first CFxB card slot.

    When it comes to video performance, the original R5 is/was a hybrid camera that promised more than it could initially deliver. Canon improved and corrected many of the shortcomings with firmware updates.
    Canon fixed all the problems with the R5c. It someone is looking for state of the art video performance from a future R5 mark II, then they are looking in the wrong direction, IMHO.

      Depends on use case and what works for you. The AF is much better on the R5 then the video mode of the R5c as it’s more cine oriented for manual focus.
      Also if you need ibis and don’t have a rig, R5c doesn’t have you covered as it’s static and designed to be rigged.
      Realistically speaking if you only need 4k, a 12 MP sensor is all you need which is what made the A7siii such a great video centric mirrorless body. It’s all about the tool you need and what suits your needs. Otherwise we would all be driving the same model smart car lol

      @@christophercarlimages9003 As I mention in my comment, the Fuji X-H2S is a very pro level body, and it's quite a bit more, (by about $1000). The OM-1 mkii is about $1700. "Better" depends on usage. I prefer crop bodies because I use crop factor to my advantage. A really really good crop body gives me a lot of advantage. You are comparing apples to oranges. The R6 is a FF camera and has a higher market value just because of the hype around FF bodies. It is a great camera, but it's a camera aimed for a very specific audience. It has a low MP count, and is not cropped. It has a high readout and fast write, with high FPS. Ergo, it's probably best for some sports and ultra low light stuff where you absolutely need as good of ISO performance as possible. I will say the R7 does do well with fairly high ISO...just not as well as it could with a BSI sensor. It would benefit much from a faster buffer and card as well. Give us one more dial like the R5 too. It wouldn't take much, and there are people like me more than willing to buy such a beast. Again, I make my comparisons to the Fuji and OM models. The market is there. Canon just needs to get their heads out of their orifices.

    For me, manufacturers ideally need a fast camera, a high resolution camera and a fast and high-res ‘super camera’. This is what Sony does with their 9 series, R series and A series.
    Canon has the R3 for fast, and R5 was (somewhat) high resolution. But now everything is looking kind of messed up if the R5ii just gets faster… and the R1 is fast but lower res?? Why would folks buy the R1 if the R5 gets this much faster? Where do you go if you need more resolution? What’s the point of the R3?
    If Canon are set on adding a lot more speed and AI processing to the R5ii, my best hope is that they really work on multi shot technology to enhance both resolution and dynamic range, as phone cameras have started to do. I have no need for 60 raw per second… but if Canon could grab and merge those into a 4x resolution image with 16 bit dynamic range, that would definitely put a smile on my face. Especially if they can make a super-res capture work handheld (which Olympus has done for years).

      What do you think of Fujifilm medium format cameras? They really push high resolution better than even Sony.

      I was speaking to Craig a few days back and he doesn't see anything close to 60mp on the R5. It doesn't sound like that might be coming.

      @@OrdinaryFilmmaker I’d consider the Fuji GFX… but they’re big cameras and the lenses are big too. Got to say the Leica SL3 has me interested.
      If you think Canon is bad with a closed lens mount and limited lenses… Fuji GF/GFX is a lot worse!
      I actually started on Canon DSLRs. Moved to Sony ‘r’ series for 10 years… but I came to hate the body design and I’ve been moving back to Canon. There’s lots I love about Canon really, and I’ve got a good number of lenses already… just wondering where they’re going next!
      The camera that ticks a lot of boxes on paper is Sony’s a7cr… but the UI/ergonomics are brutal, so I won’t be going back there.

    If there's one thing I've learned, it's not to judge something by specifications alone, especially with cameras. Because according to the specifications, some smartphone cameras would be better than an Arri Alexa 35, which is clearly not the case.
    We will see how much better the sensor, the dynamic range, colors, the low light performance, the image stabilization, the fixing of the wobble problem, the codecs etc. are.
    A new DIGIC processor and no mechanical shutter shows me that the update is probably bigger than just a small improvement like from the R6 I to the R6 II. It won't have many new features, but there will be big improvements in what it can already do.

    • @OrdinaryFilmmaker
      @OrdinaryFilmmaker  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Amen on that. It's always about the outcomes, which I tackled here. It isn't the stacked sensor that matters, it is the capabilities it brings: low light performance, dynamic range that allows to get better shots when lighting isn't optimal and for the AF to grab more shots for us - increasing our hit rate. Well said Julian. You'v got the right approach.

    Hey, I like your vids and hope to see you reach your 100k goal soon and from there be on your way to bigger audience. A few notes though: you repeat yourself quite a lot in different ways. As one example, In this video you said the same sentence twice at 7:49 and 7:55 which is most likely an editing mistake, but still.
    Also, many of the recent vids seem to be about almost the same thing. I know you're most likely just trying to post consistently and there's not just that much else to talk about, but this can hurt your growth (I personally skip videos that seem like they're talking about the same rumours again and again). TH-cam sort of measures "satisfaction" or "happiness" (you can find more about this on a Peter McKinnon video posted roughly 4 months ago titled "TH-cam isn't the Problem, IT'S YOU" where Renee from youtube explains some of these things). Essentially, get people to watch more of your video (Retention) and more of your videos in row (one part of satisfaction). So double check your edits, be concise (cut excessive rambling, avoid saying same things many times in different ways just to get longer videos), maybe widen your subject variety a bit and look at your retention to see where/when people dip out (if they do).
    This is just my opinion and is meant as positive in hopes to see you grow faster and possibly get "in" with bigger sponsors, as I like seeing new people doing camera things on youtube.

    • @OrdinaryFilmmaker
      @OrdinaryFilmmaker  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's a challenge this time of year. Things can change from say to day so I put out another video. For those who like the camera of the day, it's good, for those that don't they tune out. If I focused on Canon only, this would be less of a problem, but when things are crazy and busy like this with new videos just being a minor update, I get many more views and income jumps. When videos are spaced apart and different from each other, growth is slow oddly.
      I need to watch out for those editing mistakes, but I do try to repeat the central message about three times. Studies show that they click better.
      My goal is to retire in 3 to five years and do this full time. This will give me more time to focus on this instead of being pulled in every direction ;) Thanks for the feedback.

    • @Trespas
      @Trespas 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@OrdinaryFilmmaker Yeah, bigger creators have the benefit of "filling the quiet times" with sponsor provided gadgets, photo trips and private events etc. so it must be a challenge and can afford to not be the first ones out with some rumours (pick and choose only the best bits, like Jared Polin). You'll get there too, as you're doing pretty well for a new channel already.
      The "repeat at least 3 times" would be a good idea if you were doing educational content, as like you said, it stays with the watcher better. But in social media, sometimes you have to throw some of that mentality away and forget some of the old marketing "rules" to have the content be more engaging, or find a way to vary the message and space it out (good script writing and staying with the script helps, also helps with the umms and oh's when thinking about what you're saying) so that it's not as noticeable.
      It is challenging, but if you're providing news coverage, repeating the message is not as much needed. Of course, there is an audience for every style of content, so these are just my opinions.

    • @Trespas
      @Trespas 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Same, and I've noticed the same thing, but it's not good for the current "algorithm" at least not in the long run, as algorithm = audience (simplified). If audience sees too much repetition and bails on a video, it will drive down engagement, retention and growth, meaning youtube won't pull as many videos from this creator to push to new people (overly simplified).

    • @OrdinaryFilmmaker
      @OrdinaryFilmmaker  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don't care about the TH-cam Formula so much. It is about being first out with content. There was so much blow back from the specs from CR I put out this video to explain why the specs could mean a better camera than first believed. As we get closer to the R5 announcement, content may seem very similar: a price update, leaked photos, new specs. Think of it like an all news channel, when a big news story hits, they cover it 24/7, but if you watch all day, it is repetitive. It's a challenge I have to think about. How Can I cover a minor update in info while still offering value without feeling stale. Your thoughts would be welcome. Another challenge I have, if I am not first out with updates, it leaves the door open for someone else and I lose out a lot.

    • @Trespas
      @Trespas 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@OrdinaryFilmmaker That is a challenge, and good to hear that the mythical "algorithm" isn't something you really care, as you shouldn't, because audience = algorithm, and if watchers are happy, it's easier to work from there.
      When it comes to minor updates, I would first concider if it's something that has any credibility and is it even worth talking about (canon rumors trustworthiness is questionable for example). If it's questionable, maybe put some weight on how real you believe it to be, and why, and what "value" you can add to the rumor.
      Second thing, do you care about video lenght? Maybe the correct format for minor things would be a youtube short? Don't need to drag a video out to be 10+ minutes. Or do a fast roundup, around 3-6 mins, nothing wrong with that either.
      That last bit is challenging when growing a new channel, those couple thousand views of being first matter a lot, so that might be an issue that gets easier with time and takes the pressure of being first off a little. Just think about it this way: How much value it is to a viewer to see it from someone "first", and how much value you yourself have. When you get to the point that you and your opinions are the value that viewers want, then being first is not as critical. But as you said, it is tough at the moment.
      To put it another way, if being first is the main value a channel brings, that will not carry for long. You have a lot more to offer than being first, but finding your groove and style takes time and can't really be rushed.

    Seems like video shooters are satisfied with the reported specs. Stills shooters not so much. Maybe that's because Canon hasn't produced a top performing sensor ever. Their DxOMark scores are mediocre. And this in no way can best the Z9 unless it has a truly pro body and seriously bigger battery, which is never going to happen with a 5 series camera.
