    Good morning from Indonesia.
    I have a 5 year old JBP. I want to start the process of root reduction to put in a smaller pot. What’s the safe amount of roots that can be cut off without killing the tree?
    The tree is currently in a 12” strainer basket and I want to move to a 6” pot.

      I have eliminated up to 75% of the root mass, but normally I am careful to leave at least a good wedge undisturbed. Don't bare-root the entire tree on a conifer. That said, I'm not sure in Indonesia that it would be the same - we normally wait for winter which I'm not sure you actually experience? You might check locally also to confirm with other growers. . .
