Unreal. Everytime I stumble back to this show. How someone can have a voice like that and express themselves at that level. We are definitely lucky his recordings exist.
This, my goodness. He was unique in every way. The promise of what he could have done with more time will always make me ache. What an ethereal performance this is. His voice... ❤❤❤
You're definitely not alone! I absolutely agree, nothing can be more perfect than just him, his guitar and his voice, though the band certainly adds fullness!
You know... I was just reading about this performance in Dave Lory's book... so having it pop up in my feed was perfect timing. I wanted to hear him perform Dido's Lament. Thank you for uploading this! There was also mention of an amazing performance in France, but the Sony execs didn't want to fund the recording of it. Unfortunate.
I know, amazing and all for Dido's Lament and Corpus Christi, but if that isn't also the most beautiful version of The Other Woman he ever did (by my reckoning), then I don't know. how did he do it??
@@mercedesbeene9536 mmm - I can hear the people sitting around me recognisably whooping at the end. We are trying to work out if this is mine or not. last two sort of feel like if hed gone back and performed at sine during what i think of as his "peak". unfortunately, of course, peak here refers to a period of months rather than the usual years.
@mercedesbeene9536 Mercedes, you put out a lot of Jeff's live performances. Would you happen to have his September 1995 performance at Triple J radio. Dave Lory says it's his best one because it was mixed, produced and approved by Jeff. Would be great to listen to that one to see what was Jeff's vision of his own music
Jeff didn't mix that show, it was recorded and mixed by the radio station .. the set Jeff mixed himself from Australia was from Melbourne in 1996, about half of that has been officially released but we still haven't heard it all after 28 years. The Phoenician was a club show recorded by Triple J which they broadcast about half later, not a performance at the station. The Palais concert in Melbourne was recorded by the touring sound engineer, and mixed by him and Jeff when the tour ended a few days later.
where'd you get the recording of dido's lament? it's much better quality than any of the versions i've heard before on youtube. almost sounds like the soundboard recording, but i don't think that's ever been made public?
@@mercedesbeene9536 i don't think my reply went through... so, i don't know if you knew this, but there's a bbc documentary called "everybody here wants you," and at around the 58 minute mark, it plays a brief clip of this song in wonderful quality. listening to that again, saying that version in your video sounds like the soundboard recording was admittedly an overstatement, but it's still the highest quality full version of this song i've ever heard, so thank you so much for finding it and putting this video together
