    I like to look for rocks as I kayak along the shoreline. Having a retractable handle makes transporting it on the kayak easy. Thank you.

    I like that you provide the necessary information to allow others the opportunity to build it themselves.
    There are people out there that say, "It's a trade secret" and won't disclose how they did what they did. It's good you made this video. It will help motivate people to either use your idea OR get creative and make their own since those scoops can be spendy.
    I have the same one that Agate Dad uses but I only paid $8 for it at an estate sale! :D

    • @CurrentlyRockhounding
      @CurrentlyRockhounding  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm looking forward to seeing some of the ones that people make and even more so I hope that someone takes this idea and starts making them for sale to the public.
      Um for $8 I would also have one, you couldn't make it for that at today's metal prices.

      Its always neat to see what people do.
      And yeah....I couldn't get my wallet out fast enough. There was a second one on the wall next to it but it seemed shorter so I left it :)

    Thanks again for another awesome video. I like the rock scoop and how ingeniously you put it together. Half the fun in having a need for something...is making it yourself.

    A good way to prevent aluminum or other soft metals from clogging your files is to file a piece of chalk into the file first. I used to file a lot of brass and the chalk trick worked perfectly for that. I've also used it on aluminum too and it works just the same.

    Great video!... resale shops and pawn shops quite often have tables with these legs on the bottom for a few dollars, hence,that will make 4 scoops...ppl can keep an eye out at garage sales to for the scoop itself,..many many different scoop applications could work., other than those things I mentioned to save a few bucks,I think your design is awesome!..well done my friend!.. thanks!

    • @CurrentlyRockhounding

      Your comment about tables has me also thinking about adjustable walkers that you can find at Goodwill.

      @@CurrentlyRockhounding ahhh!!!.. never thought of that!!!..that's a great idea!!..those walkers pull a premium tho,..I was looking for crutches for my wife a while back,.. couldn't find any used ones,found used walkers tho,..bout 20.00 a piece.. unless you can find an old model maybe..wow,that's a great idea tho,with the handle and all!

    This was a video I was hoping for but didn't know to ask for. I like it. I don't know if I have all the stuff necessary to make it but I was just playing around with ideas and designs the other day, so I'll have to look into whether or not I can get all the stuff and still make it affordable.

    • @CurrentlyRockhounding

      Manistee Rock left a comment about the legs of an adjustable table or perhaps an adjustable walker. I think those things could be found at a yard sale or goodwill for cheap.

    Thank you for sharing! I was searching the internet for tutorials to make my own. The scoops I've found to purchase are overpriced and not good quality. This is industrial! Love it! Any thoughts on trying it with round telescopic aluminum? I might attempt that. 😉

    • @CurrentlyRockhounding
      @CurrentlyRockhounding  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm glad you found it to be helpful.
      Yeah you can use a round telescopic tube, I have seen some people make them out of all kinds of things that they even found at place like Goodwill. Crutches and walkers almost always have a telescopic portion that you can cut out.

    Too much work for me😄 i do like having a telescoping scoop. I attached a spoon to a telescoping hiking stick. It's not as sturdy as yours but works just fine for me. I do really enjoy watching other people do this kind of project though.

    • @CurrentlyRockhounding

    • @CurrentlyRockhounding
      @CurrentlyRockhounding  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah and you can also just make all your home repairs with duct tape and zip-ties. If that's what you want to do then have at it but its far from the best option.

    Anybody found the parts for this scoop at a reasonable price? Alcobra Metals is more than $60 with shipping for just the tubing. Not sure why telescopic aluminum square tubing is so hard to find. That makes the price for the scoop more than $75.

    • @CurrentlyRockhounding
      @CurrentlyRockhounding  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you did your calculations incorrectly. At the time of this comment I get the following.
      1.018" x .060" 6005AT6 Alum Telescoping Square Tube - 24" $6.89
      .884" x .060" 6005AT6 Alum Telescoping Square Tube - 24" $6.79
      Shipping for me is via UPS is $21 which makes a total of $34.68

    • @JohnWilson-vq4sh
      @JohnWilson-vq4sh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CurrentlyRockhounding Thanks for the response. I did go back in and dropped the button latch and it was ~$52 including shipping, so a little better, but not good. Still seems like I should be able to find it cheaper, but it is what it is.
      I really like your design. Seems like it will be stout enough to flip a decent sized rock while keeping my feet dry during the early season trips without weighing me down walking. Thanks for sharing your idea!

      @@JohnWilson-vq4sh I know one person that went to goodwill and found a walking cane that was adjustable with a telescoping portion. Maybe you could try that?
