The word "fractal" comes from contracting "fractional" - because it refers to a geometric object with fractional dimension. The triangular Swiss cheese, and the van Koch fractal, e.g., each have dimension between 1 and 2, because each has infinite length, but 0 area, all within a finite 2-ball (circular disk). BTW, your justification for infinite length of the van Koch fractal is non sequitur. Just because it gets longer at each of infinitely many steps, doesn't guarantee that its length is infinite. But the fact that at each step its length gets multiplied by 4/3 > 1, does, because, as n→∞, so also (4/3)ⁿ→∞.
How could someone down vote this? what were they looking for or let down with Fun with Fractals? Good job, took a complicated mathmatical concept and explained it while still being fun and SHORT. The expediency of the explanation is almost as interesting as the video.

I had always thought that natural selection produced this, until I saw the Nova video about fractal geometry. So, who "created" Loren Carpenter? Just as people did not see what Benoit Mandelbrot saw, the creators of this video are not seeing WHO created them and everything else in the universe using, among other things, this concept of geometry.

What is a "ception"? I think you are thinking of the movie "Inception". Inception means the beginning of something. In that movie it refers to the beginning of an idea or notion. The title has nothing to do with the recursion that makes the plot interesting, and which other movies, like for example "ExistenZ", have done before. A pattern that consists of copies of itself is a type of fractal. Not all fractals are self-similar. What makes a fractal a fractal is that it has a non-integer dimension. The Koch curve for example is 1⅓-dimensional, more than one dimension, less than two. And, as stated, it is infinitely long. All fractals are infinite in some way. The plot of Inception is not a fractal. It only goes 5 or 6 layers deep (depending on how you interpret it), there is no infinity.
I love the eternal beauty of fractals..

With complex numbers. Here is a mathematician explaining it:
th-cam.com/video/NGMRB4O922I/w-d-xo.html
by repeating this infinite number of times
f(z) = z^2 + c where c is a complex number
Isnt this kind of like a ception because it has a something in something in something forever
