That they invest so much in their roles, the result is an almost true viewing of the horrors of 1794 again. It still transfixes me that we did and still do this to each other.
For me, this is the best performance and production of this opera. The stage is so spacious and perfectly used, transforming (based on the clips I’ve seen) so effortlessly into the scenes of the story, and the cast and orchestra are so properly attuned and paced.

I discovered Jessye singing Strauss with Kathleen Battle and was quite simply blown away. Their voices are like a crystal glass of rich cream atop a mountain. I have so much more to discover. Such a sad loss.

When I graduated from Harvard, Jessye Norman happened to be there. As I walked past her, she reached out and took my hand and congratulated me. I was so shocked and touched at the same time. She was so kind and sweet. May she Rest In Peace

Jesse took possession of whatever operatic character she was portraying. Watch her... as well as listen...and you will see what I am saying. I dearly miss her warmth and generous spirit as well as her glorious voice.

sad though jessye's death is, there is an emerging star in europe named patricia janeckova, who will bring opera to the masses; take a listen to her version of, 'ave maria', (song for paris) & 'meine lippen,' from a 2016 new year concert, both on you tube.
if you say so!! jessye was 74 when she died; her voice could never be as good as it was 30 odd years ago, but fortunately, there are still recordings available of her at her best; but she is gone now & there is a new talent on the block in the form of 21yo patricia janeckova.
