    My camaro is the reason I'm going to a tech school next year and your camaro is my inspiration for what I want to do with it. Was just going to 350 swap from the 305 but nah. I want an LS engine

    So that’s why my steering wheel rolls over 3 times before you get the sensation that the vehicle is vaguely moving in the direction you want it to go

      I have a 87, that I can't believe I have been pulled over for thinking I'm drink yet. Lol A little over 900 miles and it will have 500k on it though. So I guess it should be that way. Still all factory. The carb hasn't even been rebuilt. Smokes like a freight train when you start it and gets about 10mpg but she's still going. Lol

    Good info. What steering wheel is the on your car. I have a 92RS and has a very ugly wheel. I'm not going to modify it much but have a 6 speed out of a 95 Z28 for it. Thanks

    Have you ever heard of having trouble with a steering box later on after installing an Astro shaft. I installed mine last year and removed the extra play out of the box. Right now, my steering is in really bad shape. Kinda scary to drive in the rain.

    Hey buddy, what about a gas gauge that won't read correct, do I have to lower the entire gas tank to fix something inside the tank...the sensor...I have a carb car, so it does not have a fuel pump in the tank, just a sensor...sigh...kinda hard to get a correct gas read out now...darn it all.

    Just FYI, when you rotate one U-joint, you're putting the U-joints out of phase with the other. I would recommend doing an image search of "universal joint phasing" to fully understand what I mean. The joints on our cars are not at a really high angle, so it may not make much of a difference, but it can result in a "wavy" feeling in the steering as you steer lock to lock. It's still probably better than the rag joint.

    Do you grind on the slightly flattened side of the steering shaft or the rounded side? Other videos I've seen show people grinding the bolt relief on the flatter side. I'm trying to install mine right now and its either indexed 180 off or I'll have to grind in on the rounded side as it throws my steering wheel 180 off/upside down. Not sure what to do?!?

    I have a blue third gen too. .for 17 years now. But u look like someone who may know how to help this gal. I have had all my interior power go. No gauges, lights and radio. Have checked and found a 5 amp fuse go..each time I put it in so far. Hut can't seem to get the power back. Been looking at all my wire and ground and I even put in another light switch. So any ideas how to track this down without a shop charging me a grand I don't gave to track it down? Oh and the cig lighter is fine too. Sigh. Thanks so much. I will do the mod in this video next! Yup this gal has done a lot on her own but electrical is not my strong point. My car us the 85 sport coup, carb 305. Cheers!

    • @jadenschram6816
      @jadenschram6816 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've had something similar happen before where my dome light, power locks, and the cigarette lighter went out randomly. The way I fixed it was cut the power to the cigarette lighter and solved the problem.

    • @vickikgibson9470
      @vickikgibson9470 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jaden Schram Well the electrical was just fine on the cigatette lighter. What proved the problem was to replace the ignition in the steering. That was very worn after over 30 years of use. one that was replaced the fuse that were blown from shorting out due to lack of contact were replaced and now everything is fine! yeah! thanks for the info bro! I am looking at the shaft for my 3rd gen. Not to mention checking out your other mods:) You may have to upgrade that pump for steering. :) I like the wheel u r using.. Where dies one find that one? Mine is the one with the centre rectangle horn pad.

      @davebarron5939 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine is mostly the passengers door as well, can't handle all the noise, so dynamat or? to the rescue. Thanks for the vids.

    • @vickikgibson9470
      @vickikgibson9470 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Another thing people forget to check is the door handle itself. That tiny spring in the handle can break, which then will rattle about alot...very annoying. I found too, that you also need to check your roof tops...they will also rattle if not settled correct into the pin housing. As the the tops settle into the rubber, they will get loose. So check those too.:) It will cut down a lot of noise. Hope that helps too:) Cheers! A fellow 3rd gen fan.

  • @theapplianceguru

    So wait a second. Did you end up keeping the astro van shaft or did you end up putting the stock back in?

    • @lsxmatt
      @lsxmatt  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the astro shaft, it started making noise so I put the stock one in, then I got a new one and put it back in this video.

  • @multinjok
    @multinjok 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just installed it and hate it...Yes it feels a bit tighter but if your stock shaft is fine you won't notice an upgrade. The bad thing is that this power steering noise is really anyoing when going around tight corners...i will switch back to stock one. Third gens have enough rattles and noises so don't need another one for a minor steering upgrade feel.

    • @wayne2160
      @wayne2160 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      multinjok just some FYI they also make some with vibration dampeners to prevent Noise travel from power steering on eBay

    Is this mod better than the jeep steering shaft mod that they do on g bodys? I would think you can use that no modification require and greatly imptove steering play. The part is off 90s jeep cherrokees.

    Dude, that Lumina/Cavalier/Malibu steering wheel has got to go..how could you build an LS SWAPPE Z and then butcher it with the wheel.... Shit a cheap Grant wheel is 100 times better.... Nice car though.... Get rid of that dam steering wheel.

    • @lsxmatt
      @lsxmatt  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hated the stock wheel so much, like it was really skinny and gross. I don’t like aftermarket wheels, so for now I’m gonna run this one. When I eventually do the door panels and get better seats, I would like to go to some kid of alcantara flat bottom wheel.
