some notes from a dermatology PhD student :)
    1. antibiotics can allow a yeast on the skin to grow more, which can lead to small bumps on the forehead called malassezia folliculitis, which likely corrects itself as your microbiome regulates. if your skin has bumps all of the time (not acne), try leaving nizoral or head & shoulders shampoo (anti-fungal) on your forehead for a few minutes.
    2. would not recommend dove soap - even though it markets itself to drier skin types, all soaps are too harsh a detergent on the face. try a cleanser with sodium laureth sulphate
    3. pores do not open or close in response to cold water - their size is determined by genetics and uv damage from the sun
edit: 4. ALWAYS wear sunscreen every single day

I wash my face with only water too. Splash of cold water in the morning and put on a pea size blob of E45 moisturing lotion on dry patches and thats it. No make up, no serums, no face washes, no added potions. Oh I also change my pillow case once a week. Love being low maintenance 😁👍🏻

I quit washing for three weeks now and I LOVE my skin now!! I was always oily and would use zest soap just to remove the oil but now that I’ve quit that my skin went through a very oily phase for about a week and now it just glows w no acne at all!!!! Plus I’m vegan too, so I think that helps a million!!!

The best reusable product for your face is a face cloth! The small round reusable ones are kinda too small, but a proper face cloth can be used all over your face and is then just thrown in the wash.
And Oh My God the feeling of coming home after a long sweaty run, soaking the cloth in cold water and just putting it on your face is AMAZING. OR if you've been out in the cold and soak it in warm water, ah, almost better!
But anyways, face cloths are the best thing ever for washing your face!

I used to had acne problems, which I think started in the time I was in high school. At that time, I used so many products!! going to dermatologists and using more products each week..which I now understand that it sensitized my skin. For the least 3 years I've only used moisturizer, sun cream and eye cream like my skin from acne-oily turned so sensitive and dry because of the amount of products I used so many years! Recently, 3-4 months I only wash my face with water and occasionally (when I feel dirty :)) or after a sweaty workout. I am more conscious about what my skin needs and it's such a huge difference (mentally and physically). My face is clear and I no longer stress on the products I should use and the money spent on them. I use to think that the chemicals from the products will help me, but now I see that our system adjusts itself and does it much better :) Thanks Holly for sharing with us just good little details from your life!! >:D

Holly, Im skin care junkie and many things u said I didnt like. *But Im no expert*
U probably have dry skin as me. That means u dont have acne so much or ever. And here is the problem. Because it seems ur skin is clear, u tend to dont use any cleanser, moisturizer or even sunscreen. But that leads to quick aging of the skin (wrinkles) and sun damage.
1 *Dont use soap, as u said, it dries ur skin as crazy!*
2 *Clean ur face with some cleanser at least once in a week. For ur skin is good Water Boost Micellar Facial Gel Wash. Its vegan, cruelty free and cheap.*
3 *Use moisturizer twice a day. (The best moisturizer is without parfume)*
4 *Always use a sunscreen! Even in the UK sunlight can cause damage.*
    Love you

I feel like, if your skin is 'normal' and you have no problems with it, washing it with water is the best. A lot of people get a bad skin and problems because of the stuff they put on it. Mabye if you would wear foundation every day your skin would've been very different etc.

I use jojoba oil or try micellar water as a makeup remover. I use jojoba as a moisturizer but now I want to revisit the the water only method on the rest of my body except for the areas that need soap. I tremendously suffer from dry skin on my body but has been great with the water only regimen. I end up bouncing back to soap bc of the pandemic and not sure if this was good for my skin over time like the soap was doing something for me. I’ve started again for the winter months it is working out great again. I’ve done this for my scalp as well and it yielded some good results to my horrible dandruff made worse by hair products. I think for a lot of ppl less is more and can really improve a lot of issues in health. And even simpler less processed balanced diet wouldnt hurt either. I’ve suffered from most gut disorders for over ten years and after some medical aiding and eating more simply not only improve gut but my skin. Your overall diet, exercise and treatment of your body is everything. Drink water, exercise, stop putting anything in your body and on your skin, and hair, which can also cause acne and can have undesirable chemicals. Lessen stress and do what’s healthy for you. Things should improve since these are things your system desires, so just give in to it.

You said touch my skin with my face?
    😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
    What!!!!
But I gotta to say drinkin alot of water does wonders for real. Like yes I have to pee almost every other hour and its irritating sometimes. But the effects on skin and mostly achieving clear skin by drinking water is the best like literally cannot emphasize how much it works.
Also I love you holly ❤

And don’t wipe your face with a towel, after washing your face with water, towels have a bunch of bacteria and cause acne, after washing your face, either let your face dry or dab a paper towel on your face to get rid of the water.
      Hope this helps

@@abbygriffith5237 hi there, probably an odd question but when I wash my face with water should I be doing a gentle massaging motion or is it better just to let the water hit my entire face and be done? I’m just not sure if I’m spreading oils around or something

  • @alexineparker4297

I’m 2 weeks into water only on my face morning and night in the shower. During the day as well if I feel oily or sweaty. I use spf when I go outside. My skin has never felt more healthy . I hate when I read online about washing with water only and all I see is “ washing with water isn’t enough to remove dirt . “ dermatologists don’t recommend water only. But like honestly I think this is a load of crap and while maybe majority of people can benefit from a minimal skincare including cleanser and moisturizer I believe that everyone skin microbiome is different and for some with extremely sensitive skin they can maintain healthy skin with water only . If I put any cleanser or soap I actually disturb my skin natural ph / microbiome and therefore interfere with its natural functions ..Look my husband has perfect skin and has never used anything but water on his skin. I know guy skin is usually thicker and more resilient but ant the end of the day I think whatever works for you . I was using neutrogena gentle cleanser for sensitive skin for years bc it was the only cleanser my skin tolerated. this is about the most gentle cleaner you can find in stores ( no paraben no sulfate no alcohol no fragrances etc) but I still had issues with breakouts which I needed to treat with benzoyl peroxide. So I had a whole routine. Since I stopped cleansing I don’t have breakouts… I think some skin doesn’t need soap obv the rest of your body needs soap but everyone knows face skin is much different. Like if I need soap explain to me why my skin is clear with water only but angry and breaking out even when I’m not using harsh cleanser even while using sensitive gentle cleansers and non comedogenic moisturizers that are formulated for sensitive skin???

Let me tell you about my skin. As a teen, I had a fair amount of acne. As much as I shouldn’t have, I popped them all. When I turned 18, like a flick of a switch, my acne disappeared for the most part. At that time, I was in university where I was sleep deprived, drank tons of coffee, hardly exercised, and of course, stressed out to the max but my skin was fine. I’m 29 now and my skin has never been better. I still get the odd ball pimple here and there but it isn’t the end of the world to me. I have never followed a skin care routine, I only wash my face with soap and water daily, never used cleansers or toners or face masks or whatnot. I eat whatever I want, junk food and sweets included and I drink until I’m no longer thirsty (definitely less than 8 glasses a day!). I do exfoliate in the shower using my fingernails…gently. And I might use a teeny bit of moisturizer on my cheeks after a shower if needed. But other than that, I don’t follow any elaborate skin care routines or diets. I think the skin care industry is just scamming people and diet does not play a vital role in your skin. I do think genetics and hormones play massive roles, however. I’m not a dermatologist so I can’t say that for sure. But that’s my experience, I’m sure there will be some angry users triggered by this and want to beg to differ. I dunno, what do you all think? Have I defied the laws of biology with this lifestyle??

So as it could affect me in a hereditary way , it didn't because I have given up junk food for like 3 years now...I only eat fish and milk but no meat , or egg... so my skin is healthy.. actually the Indian diet is full of oils and unhealthy fats which affect our skin...So I also wash my face with water only because I forget to use my face wash..😂 and I exercise a lot and study a lot so like I don't get time to take care of my skin but my diet does.......😂.....
