I liked it apart from the final segment. I get that they're supposed to be inspiring, but mostly they're just "here's a story of something horrible that happened and they're living with it, no jokes, goodnight". One of them was literally about a kid who knew they were going to die and left notes for their family to find afterwards. Huge downer for a comedy show's finale.
I watched the US coverage of the Ebola and the Covid pandemic, and my immediate thoughts were: When Obama was president during the Ebola scare, CNN were playing it down, and Fox were amping it up, but when Trump was President during the Covid pandemic, CNN were amping it up, and Fox were playing down... Basically you cant rely on either side to give you an impartial viewpoint...
It was called Russel Howard's Good News. It was a weekly show covering national and international news. He tried to focus on positive stories, but if the story was negative he'd try to make it funny with his stand up. So you got informed about current events but while having a good laugh too. I'd highly recommend the "Mr long legged macdaddy" clip 😂❤
He doesn't have anything current does he? I think this was Russell Howard's good news, which ended around 2015, then there was The Russell Howard Hour, which I believe ended around 2020. We definitely need more things putting a positive spin on world events and showing some of the actual good news again. It's so rare you hear genuine good news.
Yes yes yes. Thank you guys so much for recently expanding your horizons to feature different comedians. We love Mcintyre and Flanagan of course but there is a huge wealth of British comedy that remains untapped on the channel. Very excited to see more 👍
there was a story in the UK a few years back, some women who had been on a reality show walking into some red carpet event being asked about ebola and she thought it was a boy band
We were out and about for the day and of course had during that time needed to use the public loo. My husband took both our sons to the toilet who were small children at the time. Our younger son was about seven then came out from the toilet entrance and in the loudest voice he could muster. Pointed at a guy leaving the toilets accusingly. And shouted THAT MAN HAS NOT WASHED HIS HANDS. 🤣🤣
I think the problem with news in America is pretty much the same with all TV in America in that it has all become advertising billboards interspersed with occasional news or TV programs. If your principal purpose is to sell things then you have to go outlandish to get those viewers and potential customers for those spending money with you. It's all about advertising revenue not quality news or TV programs.
I remember being in my last year of school, and one day we had a substitute teacher for IT. It was going well until I read his name card. Now I’m not sure if it’s the same in the states, but over here the staff card will have the initial of the first name followed by the full last name. Anyway when I read his staff card it read (Mr E.Bola)… this was round the time when E Bola was talked about. Turned out he didn’t have it, and his name was Evan.😂
The show was 'Russel Howard's Good News' and ran on the BBC froom 2009 to 2015 until it moved to Sky and was renamed The Russel Howard Show . He used the weeks news to make comedy routines, and was very funny.
Heloo guys my name is Mario. Portuguese but living in Scotland. I must say I love you guys and I'm fastelly 😂😂❤❤ loving more and more watching your reactions videos.
Congrats on hitting 90k!! I think Russell's show is called 'Good News with Russell Howard'. And don't think the media isn't out of control over here, the tabloids (red tops) are unbelievably sensationalist!
I do like comedians that include real news into comedy. And you're right, fear certainly sells and that's exactly how they played it over the last three years 🤫🤨
Over a million Americans died of the last pandemic. Sweeping it under the carpet would have cost even more deaths. So many people died unnecessarily because they would not take it seriously. Ebola was a truly nasty virus, with a death rate between 25 and 50% - 'luckily' it wasn't as contagious as Covid 19 and that is why it was contained.
Definitely check out some newer Russell Howard stuff. His show "The Russell Howard Hour" has compilations on TH-cam of the best news stories and stuff and even has like 'strangest American stories' and stuff which could be great for you to watch
It really sums up the difference between North West European media and US media. It seems like every news story gets dipped in drama sauce and the bucket with political sauce is right next to it, so why not. Lets dip the story in both.
He does live tours appears on 'panel shows' like WILTY and comedy shows like Live at the Appollo and has had a couple of his own comedy series. He's also active on Social Media. He's funny because he's topical.
Russell has done a few shows with himself and his mum visiting USA it's hilarious His show is a mix of serious and comedy but a serious interview he had with a gentleman called Harry Leslie Smith was outstanding Harry fought in WW11 You need to find this interview because as educator's I think you would love this talk
I love the Russell Howard show. The comparison between Black Friday in Britain & USA is hilarious too. He’s the news but fckn funny. Watch that instead
With 3000 miles of water either side of you I suppose it is the remote feeling as Australians have as regards to news In the UK we have a lot of close neighbours and it is human nature to know what your neiibours are up to. We do have crackpots in the UK but they are very reserved and come in under the radar. Great revue, not boring at all.
Russell Howard Is The Best ❤🏴❤️ (My favourite U.S Comedian was George Carlin) they just Tell/told it as it Really is!! ....With that Beautiful Sarcasm ...which is Our Second Language here in The UK 😂
The problem is that in the USA news and opinions programs (Fox “news”) is treated exactly the same. It’s all about the ratings, money, advertising etc; the actual news is secondary. In the UK, except for GB News (Fox equivalent), the news stations are bland and mainly give you the facts. This doesn’t make for great entertainment, but, in my opinion, the news isn’t meant to be entertaining.
Russell Howards has his own TV series about topical news. It's been running for years. The closest match in the US would be the Daily Show or Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. Russell's live DVD's on the other hand tend to be more the typical British "slice of life/actual events/memories" style of humour. (ie. the child's fancy dress funeral.) Another comedian who does a spin on topical news is Jonathan Pie, he has an ongoing character that is an outside live TV journalist. In between his "live" reports he goes off on news topics to the producer in his ear. The closest US show I can think of is the way Steven Colbert had a show based on him being a right wing chat show host.
Try some Dara O’Brien live at the Apollo, maybe a bit of Jo Brand, Josh Witicome ( not sure if that was spelt right!) Bill Bailey if you like musical comedy and maybe some old Jack dee or Eddie Izard all great comedians😁
Russell had his own show he is so funny. You need to cover one he does on gun control uk v usa. Also how usa treat women dark ages. Prince Andrew loads of great clips. Great reaction.
The name of his show is on your video reaction thumbnail. " Russell Howard's Good News" (top right) He discusses topics in the News. in fact, at 09:42 you actually say what the name of his show is. So not sure why you asked
Both of you made to watch Robbie Williams' Man of the Year. I live in Ireland and I wanted so badly to vote in the American election if Robin Williams was on the ballot! I understand and a lot of red states, the debate scene is banned! Because Robin Williams just exploded! It was like decades of frustration with the American lack of political system just came out all once.
Russel Howard doesn't just share news but shares emotions. Say what you like about him but there are other comedians out there that I don't enjoy watching but with Russel Howard you are just watching a guy occasionally take the mickey out of politicians, dictators but then other times he responds with concern and humility. You can all have your opinion but I think RH is good news. He isn't perfect but I think he has every right to have flaws
Has to be said, you guys are suckers for - well just about anything! I guess fear is good for business, and the US is of course all about business. Parts of the UK media try the same tactics, but most of the public are much more cynical and measured in their response. Though it has its numerous faults, most of us turn to the BBC in times of potential crisis. It generally does a reasonable job of being rational and calmly factual when serious stuff is going down.
Boring Reviews. If you want to know the absolute best way to watch the news I have three simple words for you: Mock The Week. The episodes are available for free, complete half-an-hours from the beginning of its 20 season run are on TH-cam. Pick any season you like, whatever year you like, and a team of seven comedians will rip it to shreds right in front of with minimal censors!
Russel Howard show is basically the news with a sense of humour.
It's a great show.
its sometimes good
I liked it apart from the final segment. I get that they're supposed to be inspiring, but mostly they're just "here's a story of something horrible that happened and they're living with it, no jokes, goodnight". It occasionally funny, mostly left woke garbage
the news with a common sennse of humour
I remember when Russel Howard's good news, used to be on BBC 3
Creating fear is a form of control
Correct, with the co-operation of the supine media whose mantra is, "If you're not scared shirtless we're not doing our job".
Water is wet.
Its the American way
That's been used for thousands of years , maybe that's what religion uses fear to control .
Yep….As proven during Covid.
You said it: Fear sells. The problem is that news shouldn't have to be sold, they should be reported factually, not skewed to cause fear.
My wife and I were lucky enough to see him live in Toronto last year. Great show!
I can only describe Russel Howard's shows are like Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. A comedy show that talks about that weeks news.
I’d love to see more reactions to this show
