I love to see this kind of interactions in the social media that portrait China and Hong King in a fair and unbiased manner. I like Jeffrey Sachs. He is a person of integrity. He might not be the best adviser for Russia with the Shock therapy after USSR collapse. But he has been a strong advocate for China in international forums, with a true understanding of China's development.
Uh, you seem to be under the primitive impression that understanding leads to friendship and/or virtue in general. You forget that understanding is also the prerequisite to effectively destroying other people. Keep that in mind as you let Sachs, a credibility whore, hold sway over you. His chirping of minority views should not be over interpreted. After all, Sachs also said COVID 19 was a lab leak. His evidence consisted of nothing except the reservations of the authors of the first CDC paper on COVID origin. Because those reservations were overridden and absent from the paper itself, Sachs then concluded that the opposite of the paper's conclusion must be true. That is, if not wilful misinformation on Sachs' part, a laughable failure in logic.
Alternatives to shock therapy would have been no better and some had a high likelihood of being debilitatingly worse. Prof Sachs is certainly kinder to prc folk than institution could be, like the Asian Development Bank
When it comes to political and economic issues, Jeffrey Sachs is the most intelligent, most experienced, and most truthful professional I know. As for the future of Hong Kong, I believe it will continue to progress toward the eventual 100% integration with China in 2047. The one country, two system transition is necessary to unwind the many years of unhealthy and corrupt Western colonialism. Both Hong Kong and Macau need China, not the other way around.
Prof. Sachs is also one of the most ethical. Hopefully, with the reversal, Hong Kong will have less wealth disparity and better housing for it's citizenry.

Jeffrey Sach is one of the most important speakers that is worth sitting down even for hours hearing him out. Leung CY is also able to articulate his role in HK today. The riots in the streets of HK a couple of years ago are something that is instigated and supported by external forces to bring the territory down. As a foreigner watching what is happening I have to say the China government shows utmost restraint but was met with imminent destruction if actions were not taken to arrest the perpetrators.
As a Hongkong citizen, I must thank Mr. Leung for all his work in integrating our city into the Great Bay Area n most of all, into my motherland in the last decades. We surely need more patriotic leaders like you! Also, I've been following Professor Sachs for years n have great respect for his efforts in promoting friendship n co operation between our two countries! HK is certainly facing some challenges at the moment. Ironically, decades ago, Shenzhen used to look up to Hongkong for solutions to their problems, and now they've found their footing. I think there's no shame for Hongkong to do the same as Shenzhen did in the past, and eventually HK would regain its position in the world. In any case, I'm optimistic of HK's economy, and the mainland's, in spite of current challenges.
People who truly love China and Hong Kong are the people who are not afraid of the toil and hardship but also fun and exciting times of being part of Chinas transformation. They should be helping to make China great again. China is already the world leader in the safest and most sustainable country. The Greater Bay Area in China is the new Silicon Valley where all the great minds will unite to enhance themselves and for the future Peace of the world.
Hong Kong won’t progress and thrive unless it changes its mindset thinking they are superior to the Mainland and its people. China as a whole thrives and is acknowledged in the greater global community. The standard of living is better, its infrastructure is far more superior to that in Hong Kong and of course it would be wonderful if Hong Kong can work in harmony and in tandem with the Mainland.
Believe me, it has already changed. Many intectual people from our generation (in our 50s) know that. It's the younger generation who do not see what we can see.
@@Sean-giang Depends on how you look at it. If you want to move 1 million dollars from Hong Kong to UK or US or Australia to pay for stuffs, I can do it within 5 seconds. If you try to do the same from Shanghai, it will take 3 hours to 3 days depending on situation. That's one fundamental differences. If I were to use Shanghai or Guangzhou as a service hub, my parts need to pay for custom in and out all the time which increases my cost; but if I use Hong Kong as the Asia Pacific service hub, I'd not have that problem. So really depends on how you see it.

Once they truly understand that, that's when they will make big bucks with the heritage of being part of China. There are many attributes that the Singaporeans wish they would have like Hongkong. It is indeed ironic to see Hong Kongers crossing to Hong Kong to buy goods and services in Shenzhen. I was there last year and witnessed it myself. For years it was the other way around, you could barely move in the malls in the New Territory they were so packed with Mainlanders buying baby formula, jewellery, luxury goods and so on as well as visiting Hong Kong's attractions like Ocean Park and the Peak.
Prof Sachs is not only a learned US scholar, he is open-minded, intelligent and a fair+just American. Hong Kong was leased to British in 1860 under duress when China was absolutely weak. The Brits then not only forcefully took Hong Kong, they looted and pillaged China’s Summer Palace and burnt it down. The ruins are still vividly left intact in Beijing today. While credit must be given to them for developing and maintaining Hong Kong prosperity, but they spoiled it by being reluctant in returning HK to China as shown by ex PM Thatcher hard and adamant stance in her several visits to Beijing for negotiations prior to 1997. Further more, a few years ago, their MI6 and CIA were trying to usurp a revolution by secretly encouraging Hong Kong citizens to demonstrate. Something must be terribly wrong with the Brits now that even their GDP has been overtaken by that of India, their ex colony.

I think the top tier people working in Fin Tech is HK will continue to earn shit loads of money like before… in the mean time, the mainland and its influence has provided vast and various opportunity for Hong Kong youth and working class much more space to elevate. Wow, was very impressed with excellent exchanges of views, with much needed eye opener overview of China’s GBA, the unimaginable farsightedness of the overall development that’s still ongoing, the strategic roles differences between GuangDong areas linking Hong Kong, Macau that are very well aligned to the growth of this huge, potential mega cities! HK is not a static concept. It has never stopped adapting to new normals. Those who keep harping on the death of HK "as we know it" are unfortunately unable to see beyond that time period during which they lived in, were engaged in or knew HK. Their limitation is not representative of the greater reality of HK.

I think the top tier people working in Fin Tech is HK will continue to earn shit loads of money like before… in the mean time, the mainland and its influence has provided vast and various opportunity for Hong Kong youth and working class much more space to elevate. I think the properties are much more affordable than before , and this is crucial for young people to sustain a life.

Completely different level of knowledge and view, Mr Leung basically reads the fact , espeically what he has achieved which is mostly tiny achievement and memorizing it well without really thinking deep into it, Mr Sachs on the other hand is expecting some important messages and vision from Mr Leung, however adsent. Great Bay Area would require some principal and fundamental idea changes in order to reach its expected successful level.
To restore the economy with Hong Kong would take quite some time especially Hong Kong is now facing with both external and internal tension .
There are so many issues have to be tackled.
Just to name a few from below :
Expensive living cost
Ageing population
Geopolitical issues
Hong Kong need to find a way as to become unique and exclusive. If just depend on price competition only , Hong Kong will never be completed with other cities like Shenzhen and Guangzhou .
To regain with the Globally reputation and blooming economy for Hong Kong as like how it used be ,Hong Kong must need to become more diversify ,competitive and attractive . If Hong Kong can’t make it , other cities like Shenzhen and Guangzhou will gradually become ahead of Hong Kong .
Wow, was very impressed with excellent exchanges of views, with much needed eye opener overview of China’s GBA, the unimaginable farsightedness of the overall development that’s still ongoing, the strategic roles differences between GuangDong areas linking Hong Kong, Macau that are very well aligned to the growth of this huge, potential mega cities! Prof Sachs ability to reach out to this high level, former HK Chief, Leung CY, with his expertise in world affairs, combined with Mr. Leung’s office, huge strategic plannings for such a grand vision, gave much needed insights of China’s GBA. HK is not a static concept. It has never stopped adapting to new normals. Those who keep harping on the death of HK "as we know it" are unfortunately unable to see beyond that time period during which they lived in, were engaged in or knew HK. Their limitation is not representative of the greater reality of HK.
