For anyone who sees this comment, if you would ever have to experience a breakup/divorce/etc. I hope it goes just as smoothly and amicably. The mutual respect does play a part -- you'll sorta both need to be respectful and grateful people (Chris and Shannon absolutely are). My last ex slept with like 4 guys the first month after our break up and now even 20 months later (and happily 10 months into my current relationship) I still can't get over this.
That sucks, but it says more about her than you. I wouldn't beat yourself up over it. We can't control everything which happens in our lives. I was lucky enough to be on quite positive terms with my ex for a fair while. Eventually, I stopped contact so I could properly move on, but I wished her well. No hard feelings or anything. Life is too short to hold grudges.

I myself was lucky enough to experience a role model breakup at a young age when my parents separated. They’ve remained very civil to each other and are still friends, which was absolutely the best thing for me and my sister. Other than having to live between houses, I honestly don’t think their breakup impacted our lives too much.

I don’t get why people can’t understand being friends after a relationship, My and my ex broke up 2 years ago and we met up a couple months later on a friend basis and we had sex but then 18 months after that we meet up every 2/3 months and just have food or something cus we get on so well and it’ll sound weird but having sex that time after we broke up really put it all behind us cus u realise if ur not in love it’s not the same so u don’t build it up in ur head as good if that makes sense

It is possible to be friends with someone and not be in love anymore. It is called being friends. You don't just suddenly despise this person because you don't fancy them. Many divorced couples remain on good friends terms, considering there must have been something other than sex that attracted you to them in the first place.
