So, that's a basic part of literally every room/flat in Germany with exactly that 5 components. Maybe the place to sit is missing, but not the other 4.
1. Place to sit, bench or stool - agreed, I miss that in my entryway! 2. Surface to put downs keys wallet etc - Have that, very needed a space where you can just empty your coat pockets 3. shoe storage - I am German, we change shoes when we enter our homes, to minimize having to clean the floors 4. Hooks - in my case two clamps where I can use coat hangers on for the jackets, I also have a coat hanger with holes in it for scarves and I use the hanger part to hang a huge bag on, in which I have smaller bags. I also have a shelf above those clamps where to leave a hat.
I live in NYC and i like to change my shoes and use comfy flip flops in my house. My two college sons cant wear shoes in the house, the follow that rule since young age but now that they are man, they tends to forget something and dont take their shoes off.
All well and food for houses with designated entry points. I have 2 doors. I typically come in through the garage, which enters into the kitchen, and guests typically use the front door, which is in the living room.
These are important ideas , thank you . I really like the bench with the doors to hide shoes , get weary of seeing shoes in an otherwise pretty front entry .
We had a split level growing up We just sat on the half stairs in the foyer, or the half stairs in the family rm (garage entrance door was there) to put on or take off boots n shoes
These are awesome and spot-on!!! I’m right there with you, and on the same page, with all of it except the little bowl. That’s something I may need to add to the mix, cuz I do occasionally misplace my car key, if I end up leaving it in the pocket of whichever jacket I last wore, smh 🤦🏽♀️
A mirror for quick outfit checks, I'm in my 30s and often am driving away from my house when I think I probably should have looked in a mirror at some point this morning.
RIGHT? I agree with you and INSTANTLY thought of that while watching the video. BUT very easily remedied like others indicated. They have some really great ideas😊
I don’t have a foyer/entryway at all In my small mid-century cottage, but I created one by placing a small rug by the coat closet-a typical feature in this era house. Beside the closet, I placed a small chair & small bookcase with a mirror above it. My keys, glasses, etc., are in my purse, which I simply hang on the closet door handle/-no room for hooks. :) I stash boots in the closet, which is directly behind the entry door. This can be accomplished even in a small space…but clutter does tend to accumulate near the front door

Greetings from London I’m a new subscriber to your channel and must say I love all your videos as it inspires me to make my home more accessible and comfortable to live in thanks so much ❤
Yes it does! 😂 My place is small too. I don't have stairs but my loveseat/ sofa is 2 steps from the door, so that's where I sit to put & remove my shoes. 😅
I have a question: Shouldn't shoes be stored with proper ventilation or in a cabinet with air holes? In our country, we were always taught that shoes (especially leather) will break easily if it is stored on a very closed storage especially for longer periods of time. Same with bags too. No hate and all, and I love your videos. Just genuinely curious. Thank you.
@@AminaSheik-n2d I don't know... but my mom's leather bag started to peel off less than 5 years. She forgot that she had the bag 😅 Have great one to you, too.
The air is generally dry inside my house, and we don't put wet shoes straight in the cabinet. There's also gaps in between the doors and behind, so there's still some airflow but again it's not humid so there's no issue here.
I would not place keys and/or wallet/purse at the hall way/entry way, you are making it easy for anyone that wants to rob you - all on a serving plate. I do agree to have a designated area for those times, perhaps not close to the door though.
I used to have a friend who I visited, I was shocked because there was nowhere to hand coat and put shoes. As soon you entered there was a cream coloured carpet so I used to put my bag on the floor and put my shoes on top of my bag.
I have it all 😊👍 but I have a family that doesn't put shoes away, or leave keys in the designated bowl or hang up their jacket 😤🤦 I always know where my stuff is, but my husband is constantly looking for his stuff 🙄
Like me I dont one you go straight into living room area so I have dedicated a corner with bench with shoes under a coat hanger and chest of drawers. The functional furniture will automatically section this part of the room to be used for that
I covered something similar in a design dilemma episode - th-cam.com/video/HHdENNNt7A0/w-d-xo.html There's an entry door opening up straight into a tiny kitchen there. Might be worth checking it out. Or this apartment makeover - th-cam.com/video/UC6y5xwQkFE/w-d-xo.html There's no traditional entryway here (it opens up straight to open plan living and kitchen).
I thought these were kind of a given … I have always had all 5 although I am looking forward to having a bigger coat closet and keeping shoes in there and not in the foyer
Where I live on the east coast of USA, it is very handy for the thieves, when they break into your house, and find the car keys by the door. Not kidding, check it yourself
He left out an important essential. A mirror, preferably full length, so you can check your appearance before leaving your home. Since my "entryway" is in my living room, as many many are, i already have a place to sit, and a coat closet provides a place for coats, shoes, bags etc. I did however clear the path in front of the door. The only furniture is a small entryway table. Most people make the mistake of placing living room furniture in their entryway. Move all that furniture away from the door and the path from front door to interior door. What a difference!
Hanging stuff on hooks only looks good HERE because the items complement the color scheme of the house, but in real life it looks very tacky and an eyesore.
And if you don’t have one? I wish someone who lives in a shoebox like us Brits would make realistic videos. Question: how to arrange a room with only one available corner? The other corners are door into house, open space into kitchen and the third is access to a staircase. Ps: the room is tiny. 🤷🏻♀️
Ikea Character is sleepy time aesthetic ✨️ their color choices are as boring as their creativity in craftsmanship. Modular brainstorming has stunted design development.
I agree with your lust but you shouldn't sit down when you put your shoes on. You need to practice your balance as is very important for when you get older
Are you practicing your balance doing unnecessary and unrelated activities like walking and picking things up, or do you only practice when putting on your shoes?
That entryway is huge!
1. Place to sit, bench or stool
2. Surface to put downs keys wallet etc
3. shoe storage
4. Hooks
5. Mirror
Closed up shoe storage will stink. Need open air for the sweat to dry. If closed you & guests will wonder what's the funky smell when entering

These all make a lot of sense, especially the bench when it's winter and you _have to_ sit down to put on and take off heavy snow boots.

Love the idea of the bench, shoe storage, mirror & hooks near the front door. Keys near doors stress me out from a safety perspective.
You can always hide them a little decorative box of some type, or even hang them inside a cabinet or closet by the door.
Place your keys inside of something or only leave other items in your exit dish?
RIGHT? I agree with you and INSTANTLY thought of that while watching the video. BUT very easily remedied like others indicated. They have some really great ideas😊
