Soto and Pete aren’t even on the same level of player… like Pete can’t even shine his shoes You overpay for MVP, hall of fame players. Not aging Home run or bust hitters at 30 years old. Anyone wanting to hold on to Pete is just straight up emotional and hasn’t come to terms with it. They’re not gonna overpay Pete

Pete is almost an all time GREAT Met already! His numbers are amazing and irreplaceable, as is his fit for this town and these fans. Dude is a LEGIT NY capable athlete - not many are. Not to mention he accepts and looks for the challenges. Dude has all the intangibles and his production is only denied or argued by fools. Is he a top 3 player? No! Is he a top 5-10 player w potential to be one of the greatest Mets ever? YES. Sign him, so long as it isn’t stupid which Stearns has NEVER done.

The problem with ALONSO'S wishes is that his future salary goes against STEARN'S MINI MARKET/ MONEY BALL PHILOSOPHY.
Trade him, then resign him. That way, the cost of the contract doesn't feel too rough since you got som prospects out of it
