Hygger lights for the win! I agree with Stubbs, the 24/7 are my preference (less bells and whistles, lower cost, same quality). I also notice the spread issue and am working on a custom deflector to help spread the light better. Thanks for the update!

Thanks for watching. I had an idea to use clear plastic hinges in place of the tan or smoke glass (lid) tops so it will allow a full spread.

Mine are working great... I think I still prefer the the 24/7.
So you run both the fluval and the Hygger..
What settings are you running... As in percentage and hrs.
But you just answered most of that... So you would suggest running two lights??
    Excellent update

I ran just the HG957 for the better part of the year. The only issue with most lights is the spread if you're lucky with some lights to get a 120-degree spread is calling it good. I ran the HG957 at 100% for several months and it worked great, but I like a better spread front to back and side to side. So I turned the 2.0 back on around 3 months ago or so. This way it reduces the dark areas in the tank. I run the hygger at 50% as of now and the full is only on late in the day (normally when I get home) for 3 hours. I did adjust the hygger intensity to 90, 80 etc. But at 50 the algae is almost gone and I can get a brighter look in the tank running both. Running just the hygger around 80 or still looks great and grows plants and fish pop. But depending on the size of the tank and lids you do get those outer areas of less light.

@@DeFreeseAquariums Hi just got this 957 today and trying to figure out the cycle to run for a planted on a 50 gallon tank. I have the 978 running for 10 hours at 100% full spectrum but some plants are not doing very well, so decided to supplement with the 957. I am finding it a bit confusing to be honest. I am understanding above that you are running the 957 at 50% but for how many hours? Then you mention "full is on late in the day for 3 hours", so that is full spectrum at 100% I am understanding. In the video you said 7 hours, so presume 50% at 4 hours and then 100% for 3 hours? Also you said at 80% you still had good plant growth for using the 957 alone, is that also for 7 hours? Sorry just trying to get good plant growth in my aquarium without hopefully algae. Thank you for any reply.

@pomlady7 I adjusted the cycle as I started to get hair algae. My lights come on 3:30 pm until 10:00 pm at 60% full spectrum and then just the blue from 10:00 pm to 10:30 pm. Plants are doing fine. I'm not sure what kind of plants you have and what if any fertilizers you are using. I use Thrive all in one and Thrive root tabs for my root feeders. Depending on the plants, you may have to adjust the cycle/duration and see what works for the plants. I find that dimming it down allows for a longer lighting schedule without growing algae. But also having the right mix of plants keep the algae at bay. I have quite a few slow growers and then medium to fast growers, so they out compete the algae for nutrients.

My hygger light is not cool to the touch. It’s hot

Mine is warm and gets nowhere as hot as my Fluval. But it may have to do with I only run my light 7 hours and it's not set to 100%. Have you reached out to Hygger?

I have the same light and they get extremely hot to the touch

I'm not sure as to why. My runs lukewarm and is a lot cooler than the Fluval 2.0 next to it. Maybe a batch, which can happen with any product. Reach out to support and see what they say.
