Joseph Hill was actually a hero in the Reggae Music house.I was privileged to watch him perform on stage in Kumasi- Ghana in the year 1998.It was a great day for reggae music lovers in Ghana. So unfortunate that, he departed so early to his maker.CULTURE WILL FOREVER BE IN OUR MINDS.
We had the pleasure and luck to book Joseph twice at our club. The second show the band flew all the way from the Ivory Coast to perform even Joseph was very sick. He could have cancelled ( as stated in the contract ) but he fulfilled his obligations. After the set ,like all other bands ( we have stories of really bad experiences ) we go on his tour bus to thank him and express our gratitude for making us and our customers as well his fan happy. He got up from his bunker ( he had the back of the bus so hard to call it a bunker ,more like his room ) shivering and weak and shook our hands and he insisted to talk for a while .We knew it would not be long and felt so bad . A few weeks later while in the Freeport Bahamas we got the news that he passed. Friends Joseph is an exceptional human being. His legacy will live on forever. He is a true ambassador. He took his craft very seriously and it manifested in his music and personal life. He carried himself with the utmost dignity and humility and love for all.I hope the Jamaican people honor him. We miss him. Rest in eternal peace. I Luv.
I got to know Culture lately, since then a day has not past without listening to their beautiful music. Sad I couldn't see him before his passing on. God bless you Mr. Hill and the entire Culture band!
We carry the same thought i could tell that u lisyen attentively to the songs that he sang that how you get to adore and embrace such greatness love culture
The best ever the World over the great Hon, Mr.Joseph Hill the Culture thanks you so much, you left us with lots of wisdom no can fell your shoes put your hands and say thanks.
This video rekindles memories of being at the concert. Red Rocks is one of the most beautiful and nicest sounding venues in the world, and perfectly fitting for Culture's caliber of artistry. The backing band was formerly known as "Black Sheep" from Wash. D.C., as far as I know. They were musically dangerous behind Culture, especially the drummer and lead guitarist. It's safe to say that trying to test Black Sheep is about as smart as trying to test Culture. As for the concert...all I can say is...I was lucky enough to experience Culture at the Bayou in Georgetown, D.C. No other reggae performance has compared since...the crowd shouting on every lyric, burning lighters, blowing horns, banging bottles on tables, walls, and the stage....just utterly making about as much noise as the band...with Mr. Hill pulling up what seemed like every single song about 3 times before proceeding, trying to calm the crowd, but inciting them even more. Still, seeing Culture at Red Rocks was priceless.
I didnt know about Black Sheep, Robin Armstrong, guitar, and Desi Hyson, the keyboard player on left, where members of Moja Nya, and what an experience it must have been to experience Joseph Hill in a club setting during his prime, epic.
this man still never dies his tongue still remains in the world of music, we will forever remember you as we still play your music. as you said, we were made by one hand and created by one man, live on!!
This live performance and live in South Africa in 2000👌👌👌👌.... All his his live performances are in another level.... But the year 2000 live performances
We miss you Mr Joseph Hill!!! Could not agree more with helithemaddog - he was honest, unique, responsible, peaceful, kind, talented and intelligent. Nothing false or affected. A role model for us all! Rare document. Good to enjoy it.
Thank you Gab for posting this performance of the great, late Joseph Hill and Culture! Many years have gone by for me not listening to Culture, but now it has become very signifigant again. I think, feel and see that there was nothing false, affected or aggressive in Joseph Hill. To me he represented an honest, unique, responsible, peaceful, kind, talented and intelligent man. I truly cherish and respect the memory of him. His quite too early death was a sad loss to his family, fans, not to mention real and meaningful roots reggae. RIP Joseph Hill. What would he say now? He'd say...Peace, Love & Harmony!
Gab144000 blessed Gab! may I ask if you come from Italy? If so I think we were friends in the good old TH-cam time, time before google bought YT. I'm sorry to say but TH-cam has changed and not for good but for worse!!! this new YT is a huge mess. of course this is just my opinion. but big up for you Gab for posting some great old roots reggae, I appreciate it greatly!
Gab144000 Do you remember Bushmasta who's reggae channel was one of the best music channels there was? But when Google bought the old TH-cam one of the first things they did was to destroy his channel. That happened also to me. I had a reggae channel too. But one night after the good old TH-cam was sold to Google I tried to sign in and all I found was that my channel was empty...nothing left of it. I was so angry but so was Bushmasta too!!! Now I have a new reggae channel but it's nothing compared to my old channel. Actually there were many who lost their channels at that time. Well, never mind... we roots reggae lovers have still a lot to listen to :) like your channel for example!! I'm glad to meet you again. Peace journey to you bredda!
I feel ire now, listening 🎧 now from Eldoret Kenya 🇰🇪. I love Culture music 🎵, it backs me to the memorable days, RIP Rastaman your soul still speaks messages 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
A great reggae icon, a wanderful reggae masters musician, he played with intensity, a revolutioner in his on ways on the stage, he add fun in his music with so much of commentaries him self,, finally the world will missed his crude British slave trade English speaking on the stage,
Mr Hill has REINCARNATED unto the next light of life. Death is never the end of anything, which goes to show the mystery of a mysterious supernatural GOD of the Light of LIFE that has no darkness.

Would loved to watch him perform
