Team 6 cylinder. Wished they sold the wagon in the US. Would buy it over SUVs.
I lived in Canada and was amazed when they let us buy some! This is the perfect car fun comfortable and have tons of space!
Ahh I'm the opposite! Not much of a wagon fan, so I'm glad I went with the GLC 43. Different strokes of course! They're head turning vehicles in person.
This car is a great reason to chose a Genesis product instead of it.
Team 6. Wish they sold the estate in Thailand. But love my 2021 C43 Coupe as well!

I agree with you Thomas, I prefer the saying/nomenclature of "C43 AMG" over "AMG C43". It's has definitely been years since AMG switched the model's name and AMG badge around. I grew up with "SL55 AMG", "CL65 AMG", "C63 AMG", etc. and it's still hard for me to say AMG C63. Sidenote, I hope Mercedes will move from capacitive touch back to proper switches and buttons. Mercedes has always made good quality feeling switchgear and it's a pity they're moving away from that (they really nailed the window switches on the W205). If there is enough backlash or criticism, maybe Mercedes will take a page out of Honda's book. Context: Honda in North America removed the volume knob for a capacitive touch volume slider and then moved back to a traditional volume knob a couple years in the outgoing Civic's lifecycle.
I def think the same will happen with Benz. And I completely agree I love the W205 switches

And you'd be correct. For me C43 AMG denotes an AMG version of C43 while AMG C43 means exclusively made AMG car which doesn't have a comparible equivalent in the Mercedes range.
but it makez zenze to zay AMG C43 now coz AMG iz a zub-brand now inztead of a trim level. 3 mercedez zub-brandz: mercedez-benz, mercedez-maybach, mercedez-amg.

Yes, Mercedes nowadays is all about form and gimmick but when you start using it it’s all crap
Yeah it looks kinda cheap and cost cutting. Like the steering wheel airbag in plastic just looks soo cheap. Fake leather would’ve been better

i moved away from mercedes to bmw, now im furious with my crazy bmw unreliability. i prefer inferior interior but reliable car (like toyota)
Agreed. I drive the current cla45s. Interior Looks good, but when you drive you get cracking sounds everywhere. That's a no go for a car around 100k.
My take is that ambient lighting, especially on a long journey, is that it is restful and calming while driving.
It's so sad MB is quickly ditching the V6/V8 when it even skipped a whole generation, Meanwhile BMW is running hotlaps around them in their legendary B58 Inline straight 6. It's too early for these 4Cyl hybrids. Not worthy of a true AMG in my opinion.

my only concern about the 206 gen is that electric-assist turbo, as turbos are consumable. The cost for replacement is definitely going to be a pain, but thats of course IF they fail.
They only really have a problem when people don't service the vehicles regularly or don't treat their vehicles with respect and wait for warm up and let the vehicle cool down before shutting off after a hard drive.

Always a possibility. That said, Mercedes have pretty well nailed these biturbo engines, and if they are gonna pop, it’s more likely to happen at low kms if it has a predisposition to it, warranty would have to cover this, surely for the price?
. AMG design is just freakish. In the best of ways. I’m jealous every time someone drives past me in one.

First the w205 C300 didn't get a V6 now the C43 doesn't get one either. I cant deal anymore :(
Not for me... not when the B58 in the M340i is such a gem of a motor. Mercedes has a straight-6 now... why not put that in this?
I am having the mild hybrid m340i….yes, it’s a gem!
Have just fitted a down pipe and it makes now on dyno 406hp and 562 Newtonmeters….the acceleration to 100kph mesured with gps in 4,1 seconds….I was having earlier also more powerful cars but this is just so nicely in balance. Sound, power….and very efficient, for 100km on highway with 140kmph about 7,8liters!

Another great AMG review, Thomas. Indeed, the security guard was alerted to the presence of the FEP by your trademark siren. On the engine, I’d say that the point about the longevity owing to the reduced displacement : greater power ratio would of course achieve greater concern in my mind in the forthcoming C63 (notwithstanding that perhaps the engine will have more electric help via an ePerformance set up).

As for the engine, I'm going to stick my neck out and say I'm on the side of 4 cylinders...
2 reasons...
WAY back in the 90s, when I worked for a BMW dealership, I would sell way more 518i 4-cylinder models compared to the 520i 6-cylinder models once the prospective buyer had driven both back-to-back... simply because the lack of inertia in the 4-pot engine meant it would spin up faster, whereas the 6-pot would have so little low engine speed torque. I'm guessing, therefore, that the throttle response on this new engine will be significantly sharper, especially with the additional electric-turbo set-up.
And, second... the weight saving over the front axle always meant the 518i handled much more sweetly than the 520i 6-pot... so, presumably, initial turn-in bite for this 4-cylinder AMG will be crisp and immediate - exactly what you want in a sports saloon. 😎

2 extra cilinders are not that heavy and these cars have their engine placed in a more central position anyways. A 6L engine is unbeatable. I'd go for a 4pot agint a V6 but a 6L is just a perfectly balanced engine. You dont care about crank level inertia at this level. Your clients were buying the 4-cylinder cause it was cheaper. Lets not paint as anything other than that. The cheap entry level will always be sold better. Its also more efficient.

cracking honest review Thomas, the blue estate looks fantastic, no night package works for me & ambient light does rock, but black gloss plastic needs to die!. Prefer a good estate over SUV every time. 👍

Lightening is important for the atmosphere. Its like in a good restaurant...a good restaurant always has decent lightening, what is called ambiente = ambient lightening. So a proper name for decent ligtening. It 100% increases the value of the car.
who cares about more power... people want a reliable car with a nice interior
It is an AMG model so if people are buying this they obviously want more power
Another great in depth review Thomas. Will always love the c-class styling. Don't see improvements on the interior. Biggest complaint is no cowling on driver side display. I always have sun reflection when top is open. Also will never be fan of touch control for critical functions in a car.

I believe they have perfected the art of making a full blowm 2 liter turbo engine so no qualms about that but this is t he first time its electrified so people will be skeptical about how durable it is over time. Welp time will only tell. I'm more concerned about the exhaust sound TBH, the previous W205 C43 V6 growl is epic.
Looks really beautiful inside and out. Design wise I think they nailed it, whether it drives as good as it looks is another thing but it sure is a looker
Now the new 43 line is equipped with a real AMG hand assembled engine. This is the biggest change from the last generation. So will they charge more for this 4 cylinders model than the previous 6 cylinders one, and is it a proper charge, yet to be found.
Either this or the 2022 face lift M340i will be my next car... I just can't look past a 4 cylinder and the plastic interior on the Merc 😫

@@Shabbe02 Very tempted to, the M340i with B58 absolutely crushes the previous 6 cyl C43, beats the current E53, and even matches the 421 bhp A45S which is insane. Coming from a new A-Class I know how 'Plasticy' the interior is in new Mercs, it looks great, but its just cheap plastic on plastic and it all rattles and squeaks :(
340i all day, that inline 6 is amazing, also it will likely be cheaper

Honestly without seeing an engine tear down and the size of the bearing surfaces and materials it would be difficult to say. Although I would definitely consider doing oil changes twice as often as Mercedes would recommend .

Ain't gonna sound as good as the V6 C43. Crossing my fingers for the exhaust to at least sound better than the 45 series.

Somehow I am happy that I will stick with Stinger after 3 years and 100tkm and with warranty remaining for 4 more years. Great autobahn cruiser.
We also have C43 in our family. What a great looking and fun car but in the end it didn't fully meet our expectation for its price tag. But still, Team V6 forever! ❤

Really cool engine tech, electrically powered and very powerful turbocharger combined with the famous AMG 4 cylinder will make this thing fast and eerily efficient! Must agree with Thomas though, Mercedes prices itself above competitors yet delivers a solidly unsolid interior that looks cool in photos and when you first sit in it, but show their shortcomings when you spend time with them. Too cheap for this price point.
Exactly. This is so sad because the old Mercedes between. 2005 and 2009 felt really solid and were Class leading. I actually chose to keep my 8 year old E Class after test driving the new one because the material and build quality was so awful. The new one I test drove had several rattles and creaks it's unacceptable.
You can be delusional all you want they recycled a lesser models motor and gave it a hybrid turbo while ditching exactly what makes it the c43amg

Hi, if my local dealer is correct he assured me that there will not be a coupe version made just 4 door C class models. I had a 2020 C43 and was waiting for a new C43 coupe but have now just bought a CLA 45S+ and it's epic, admittingly it hasn't got the 6 cylinder growl but the 45 has a fabulous sound also....
I wish car manufacturers would stop the obsession with "piano black" trim. Shows every finger print and when you clean it you invariably end up scratching it.

Every Mercedes and AMG in particular used to be a special reveal day. Nowadays, you already know every future model’s interior: capacitive crap buttons everywhere/unnecessary screens overloading and terrible piano black materials. Curious about those new engines though…

Agree with you 100% - I love my 63s and no longer selling it for this reason.
Why tf don't make a 6 cylinder for the 63?? I'm dead confused. It should produce more power than the 4 cylinder with the additional E-Motor.

Slight correction: 178" would be the size of the W203, 4.75M is 187". I owned a W203 and currently have an S205 so the size in inches jumped out at me knowing the size of the cars. Always like your thorough videos, hi from Canada

W205 C43 had one of best engine sound with pop and bangs ! Mercedes might make more money from this but they lost me as a customer ! I’ll probably switch to BMW for at least next 4-5 years !

I would rather light money on fire and watch it burn rather than buy a 4 cylander AMG.
I’ve really been weighing up between these and the C63 (coupe maybe… I dig the aesthetic.). I can’t make up my mind. The 25 year old me is still kickin at 38… so I’m very tempted to go V8.
In answer to this vid, they’re both great. But that headroom would be an issue for me. All big blokes in my family. We’re all around 6’3”ish… I do preference the blue out of these two. I prefer the chrome trim. I’d want that full interior spec (and 20” rims). Carbon fibre looks great and that luminosity is very, very cool. It’d be awesome if they’d let you start her up so we can at least hear them compared to C63 AMG. The other thing is, I didn’t get a good look under that hood. You say the turbo glows? That’s awesome and all, but I didn’t see if sufficient lagging or fire suppression.

The tail lights dont really complement the design with sharp edging and thinning onto the trunk lid.

What was the width of the boot at the narrowest point in the estate, I didn't catch it?
Too much form over function these days in premium manufacturer cars, I'm guessing less real buttons is a cost saving exercise - just slap a tablet computer in there! And fake exhausts 🙄 look okay though and should make the exhaust cheaper to replace, but I'd feel cheated!
Ambient lightening can look good and brings modernity to vehicles but too much IS distracting, these Mercs look a little too much in the driver's field of driving view.

The new C43 looks incredible in high-tech silver.. and looks so much sexier than the LCI M340i. Will refrain judgment on the engine until proper review comes out, but I think it’ll be fine 👍

Night pkg is missing alot. Estate is not sold in US which is ridiculous. Don't need rear wheel turning. Would not get this c43. Glad I got a 2021.
