Calatrava is still an Hiligaynon speaking city. They might have cebuano influx workers and its common even 100 years ago. Theres a lot of Basque families in Negros island. My dad is pure spanish mainly Basque, Spanish and portuguese with some italian. I am half spanish myself but I am a 4th generation. Most of these Basque and spanish families married their own kind until now. We used to own 2 hacienda one in Passi city and one in Pontevedra. At one point my dad would hire 3000 workers or carga tapas trabajador for one season of sugarcane harvesting. I am a Campos of Bacolod but can trace my great grandfather from Northern Spain with his mother that was born in Cervon, Bourgoyne, France. Nice video.

Its amazing that these are still descendants of Basque people.😊 Mentxaka is Basque not Spanish. Tort is Catalan. Refugio is a refuge in English. Its amazing how she still speaks Ilonggo even when you think about it, Calatrava is Cebuano. So my theory is - a hundred years ago, Negros was just Ilonggo but the Hacienderos needed workers for their sugarcane fields so they hired people from other islands most likely Cebu as Calatrava faces Cebu. This migration patterns changed the demographics of this side of Negros. I can attest to this because this is what happened to my family who migrated from Cebu to this part of Negros after WW II.
@@LosPeregrinosdeCamino yes the Mentxaka and Llantada families are Basque originally coming from Algorta, Vizcaya. She speaks ilonggo because Bacolod is a nearby place. Actually most of the sugar workers in Hacienda Refugio came from Bantayan Island of Cebu.
