Nice! Happy to hear you enjoyed it! I still really liked it, don’t get me wrong! I’d probably give it a 7-7.5/10. But the first is like a 10/10 haha. I had my issues with Gladiator II but overall, I think it’s a good movie
I loved it, it was impossible to be better than the first one. My favorite part about the movie was the amount they talked about Maximus, people love that character and the fact the movie showed the impact he made on characters of the movie is amazing and was a great hero story. Maximus the VIII King of Rome 13:15
I'm glad you loved it! I wish I did. I liked it for sure, and I never really expected it to be as good as the first, but I did personally expect it to be better. Or at least for me to like it more!
Enjoyed hearing your thoughts, Brett and right there with you. I also thought it was good and mostly satisfying but not great when compared to the predecessor. I do applaud Ridley Scott for delivering spectacle despite his age and the technical aspects are fantastic. From the sets, costumes and most of the VFX. I thought Paul Mescal was great and Pedro Pascal and especially Denzel Washington stole the show. There are thrilling action sequences that are quite brutal. But as for story and depth, I felt like there was a lot to be desired for writing and character development. Plus the story feeling similar to the first. But all and all, doesn’t hold a candle to the first but an enjoyable legacy sequel.
Thanks Jack! It does seem we share VERY similar opinions on this one! Heading in I actually had pretty high hopes, I thought maybe this could crack my Top 10 of the year and could be a return to form for Ridley who I don’t feel has delivered a truly great movie since The Martian. Although I enjoyed myself, it only ended up being good and not great. Has its moments, certainly has high points but yeah, a lot of the writing let it down. Shame really!
I enjoyed it a lot, but one miss was the main character was not memorable somehow, like I didn’t even remember his first name after leaving the theater
I didn’t remember the Hanno part but I remembered Lucius, mostly just because he’s supposed to be the kid from the first movie all grown up haha I liked Paul’s performance, but I thought the character’s dialogue and arc were really weak.
If I can say the long-hanging fruit that is Megamind, I’d go with that one. If not, then an answer that’s always cut me deep is Cars 2 because I LOVE the first Cars!
Primarily the handful I mention in the video (Top Gun Maverick, Blade Runner 2049, Creed, Doctor Sleep) but there are a few other good ones out there. I also really like Tron Legacy and I adore Mad Max Fury Road if you count that one.
I actually really loved gladiator 2, was it the best sequel ever made? No but it was a worthy sequel with great story and performances

Hey Brett, what do you think is the most disappointing animated movie sequel?

What are some of the great legacy sequels you’re referring to?
