Dan, you were lucky guy to get to throw some scoops of coal in 261. as well as a cab tour. my compliments to you good sir. i'll say this, for an ALCO built 4-8-4. she is a beast
Have you guys been to the 261 shops since they barely squeezed the 4449 in after they torched some stuff off the walkways to get some clearance. not even 1/4 of clearance left.
Very similar to the tours of WM 202 I give during the summer months, minus the 200lbs pressure of course lol but hopefully we'll see that sometime in the future!
@mkrugerrails Actually, there is some hope for this locomotive. Dan just skyped me and told me that the NRM sold the 261 to someone in California that might let the FOT261 operate it again. There is some hope for this old girl!
I only know one reason why you can't drive away with the 261: You can't be a driver and fireman at once, isn't it? I wish i can blow the whistle of the great 261 one time.
You enjoy her while you can. I hear that she will be returned to the NRM soon. :( I REALLY wanted to see her in person. Oh well, we've got the 2719 in Duluth.
Man! You and Brandon (Conductor261) Both know him! I hate you big time! j/k I'd lov to go see it sometime this year! I missed it both times she was operating!

Your lucky you get to work on a steam loco like the 261, as for me I get to restore and rebuild a railroad office and a six stall roundhouse. :)
how tall is the shop building and was it built around 261 or is it a pre- existing building
You always get lucky Dan!! 261 rocks!!
First to view and comment. This is awesome. Also, is this engine ever coming south?
