I'm 73 and every once in a while I sing this song. I sang it to my kids when they were little. I had forgotten the second verse and was thrilled to hear it and wanted to thank you for this. I totally didn't remember the part about turning the pages with rapture though. Still doesn't ring a bell. I can't wait to share this with my Catholic elementary classmates. I made a Facebook site for us and we reminisce about this kind of stuff. We also talk about games during recess etc. Thanks so much!
My mom used to sing this ALL the time. One of our favorite things to sing together. U r the only thing I can find that's not just lyrics. I would love to know y they wrote this in 1932...
Oh my! I can't tell you how many times this tune has ran through my mind over the years. I sang this song too back in elementary and only remembered words to the chorus. Thank you for this and you have a lovely voice!
I never learned that song either. However, it does remind me of the songs we used to learn in elementary school. Our teachers put a lot of music into classes whether we were good at it, or not. But to this day I am a musician, and music was my major in high school. I remember the "Lavender Blue (dilly dilly)" song. I think Burl Ives sang it.

Thank you for this. I learned it in grade school but couldn't quite remember the entire thing.
