      You do some preliminary runs with storm conditions. Check the level of peak load on mooring than select the best choice on mooring suppliers catalogs. Then try again. And recheck. For fatigue checknit will require more work. This is just a preliminary sizing

      Hi. It should be the element mesh from model with inverted face normals (pointing inwards) and resulting in negative volume. This is frequent problem. Use Spaceclaim and find face normals, they should be pointing outwards. Otherwise, check units so the estimated mass from model mesh and total from those added at geometry mass points are about same.

    Hi Xavier thanks for this video. I have three questions: 1)Do you plan to do a video for a semi-submersible type, for example, the VolturnUS-S? 2) How does one get the frequency domain hydrodynamic coefficients (added mass and damping)? I am using OpenFAST but would like to get the coefficients because I am using different wave directions from that given in the OpenFAST model. 3) Do you know how to convert the hydrodynamic coefficients from ANSYS format to WAMIT format?

    • @xavicastello1
      @xavicastello1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Andre. I´d like to do the same for a semi, but a steel hull like Windfloat. In Ansys, after the run is completed, all hydrodynamic coefficients vs frequency and direction are available in the outputs in the form of line plots. You might be able to copy the line plot results from tabular format and paste in excel. Not sure how to make it available for Wamit if not done manually. I know Aqwa hydrodynamic data can be read by Orcaflex. And Orca also reads Wamit. But it is not what you need. Ansys and Wamit do the same task. What you can do is compare their output after run.

    I´m currently doing my final degree project about a spar structure to soport PV panels.
    I´m also working with Aqwa and I´m manufacturing some prototipes.
    I have a question, why diference between CoG and CoB must be higher than 3 or 5?
    In my simulations, I realized that, if this diference is smaller, it doesn´t work as well as it should do, but I can´t find any document with the theory of this.

    • @xavicastello1

      Hi. You can make it solid. But in the end remove/detach one face to make it a surface body. It must be closed at all sides underwater and normals pointing outwards. Above water it can be anything. Its just representative. Thickness does not matter so 1 mm is fine. Your welcome 🤙

      not sure I got your question. To get the hidrostatic behavior of the platform its better to have a wide range of frequencies calculated. The data I have got multiple wave frequencies with each frequency having its different corresponding wave amplitude.

    I faced an error of "elements must be at least 1.000 Facet Radius apart" and another error of " the ratio of the areas of adjacent elements must be greater than 0.333" and the solution was always aborting. So I checked "YES" for "Ignore modeling rule violations" in "Analysis settings". does this affect the quality of the solution?

      Is probable that quality is affected. You may have elements with normals pointing against each other too close and poor mesh growth rate control. Not sure. Try using mesh quality controls

      Your model mesh has problems. Remesh with different settings and try again
