Are there not that many Red Deer, elk, and etc breeders around? Or do you just not look at those? Also why are so many Whitetail breeders getting out of the game? Is it regulations? It’s kind of sad.
much of it is because of the government's attack on the industry, under the guise of CWD management. Lots of CWD funding floating around....so at with most things, follow the money. Also, fallow are easier to manage in a lot of ways. So, lots of folks moving in to the fallow industry.
I would be curious to see if people do this domestic type of breeding with Wapiti and Caribou as well. I can imagine the outcomes with Wapiti, but Caribou I honestly have no idea how the racks would change. I'd love to see that.
In New Zealand farmers have been breeding Wapiti for over 40 years,and are crossed with European Red Deer. Most farmers prefer deer to be 1/4 Wapiti 3/4 Red.
