I was in one of those shifts, my standings werent terrible, but theres a lot of room for improvement. I have bowled as long as 10 years competetively and im only 16. where I live (Germany) its sooo hard to get into this comp, you have to earn a spot in one tournament thats closer to home, and if you earn a spot you spend upwards 3 grand on trip costs, hotel, food, rental, and its worth it when I stepped onto the lane. but its so costly that my family may not be able to let me go again even if i earn a spot. Detroit is a place that i will always remember!
I'm doing a sports shot league this summer and we just got done bowling on 3 weeks of this pattern, it was the 2006 Junior-Gold long pattern. 44 feet of oil. Its pretty tough..
Many junior bowlers want to have giant cranks, high back swings, or the two handed style but they forget about spares and lane conditions. They just want to destroy house conditions and average 240 but when it comes to a tournament later in the years like a PBA regional, conditions vary and those who adjust to those conditions fast are the ones who cash - and of course they are good spare shooters. In many houses, I see junior after junior practicing the easy condition to impress the people watching but that will get you in trouble. The best practice is to try to find a shot out of "each" arrow even if the shot is not there. When a person practices this, they will be much more successful. I have seen 240 league averagers try a PBA shark pattern (out of bounds outside of 10 all the way down) and they were minus 300 after 6 games because they did not know how to adjust - just throwing the big hook in the same place getting 3 counts. This is why it is not important to just crank the ball trying to be a super star but to practice all releases and all locations on the lane which will keep a junior bowler better prepared for a tougher condition like US Open.....and spares of course in which I never see any of them practicing so 10 pins are usually missed.

I mean I have a high rev rate and a decently high back swing but I slowed my feet down and my speed a little for the pattern
I have several friends there and didn't see any of them...lol
This is only one shift out of 6.
