Sheldon exists to be virtually unsurpassable in academic fields; the only reason Sheldon would not get tenure over Leonard is because Leonard has fewer HR problems, but Sheldon, even pre-Nobel prize, was a huge boon to their physics department, arguably their most valuable employee. Leonard might lord tenure over Sheldon, but even Leonard knows Sheldon is better at the pure academics; in his own words, "I could never do the math like you can." And Howard probably WAS competent at the off-screen engineering, but was terminally ill-equipped mentally and emotionally to handle life on a space station. Hell, NASA asked him to go back, so he clearly did something right!

I always wondered in my early dating years why I never really connected with some of these women and I began to say what's wrong with me? The last season was hard to watch, not because it was the last one, but how poorly the writers handled Raj and Howard's characters. Having, Raj alone at end showed just how lost the writers and producers were. How, BBT portrayed Howard astronaut career, put me off, almost completely, BBT went from Must Watch to Meh Watch.
