Before calling for EtH's sacking, it's important to remember that these players got Ole sacked when Ole tried to change the style to a high pressing system and he admitted the players couldn't do it and stopping running.
So what did the board do after Ole was sacked? They appointed another manager that likes to play a high pressing system (even more so than Ole).
The problem was that the board failed in getting in the players to fit that system and relying mostly on the players that got Ole sacked was only going to go one way for EtH (especially with so many injuries). The board (pre Ineos) was incompetent and John Murtough was not good enough to be DoF - EtH is paying the consequences of that.
With the proper DoF and getting in the players that can play a high pressing system (and players that have the right mentality and physical attributes), we'll see a big improvement. Until then nothing is going to change, it will contine to be a manager merry-go-round.

If we are going on about learning from our past mistakes and hindsights then we cannot be so quick to dismiss Ten Hag, in his first season everyone was backing him because things were going well. This seasons things have gone the polar opposite, with player dramas, player ego matches, sagas, injury crisis, and yet we are still in another cup final at the end of the season, no matter how pretty it was to watch, look at Arsenal, look at Liverpool, giving there managers time to make effective change, letting the players know they are not above the manager, next season he will have a real structure to work within, he deserves more time!

    • @tur00tle
      @tur00tle 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

And if thats not enough, he's clearing out the dead wood!

Yesterday, I was as frustrated and annoyed as probably 99% of United fans after throwing away a 3-0 lead. However, on reflection, after calming down a bit, I considered a couple of things. 1. With less than half an hour to go, our players should have had enough talent to see it out. 2. Mainoo and Garnacho are still kids and have been overplayed if anything, so taking them off (at the time) was perhaps a good decision. 3. Their second was a flukey, wicked deflection- awful bad luck. 4. That penalty was super soft. Yes, we've seen them given, and more obvious ones not given, even 24 hours earlier on the same pitch. 5. If he's giving that as a penalty, a Coventry defender clearly handled before the ball was headed, accidentally or not.
That being said, yesterday, I was thinking ETH is getting sacked for the first time.

At this stage into Ten Hag’s tenure we should be thinking about challenging next year with a couple of key signings in the summer. The frustration is that we are further away than ever. For those who think the players were to blame instead of the manager, let me try to explain what happened yesterday from my point of view:
    1. United led 3-0 only due to Coventry's unusual tactical setup: Coventry did not play their usual high-press football in the first half but switched to an unusual setup with 532 - which explained why they conceded two goals because they weren't used to the setup. It had nothing to do with United, to be fair.
    2. Coventry got back into the game by taking advantage of United's tactical setup: After going down to 2-0, Coventry then reverted back to high-press, transitional football (which you could see in their FA Cup game with Wolves), which United has failed to deal with for the whole 2023/24 season. Both the first and second goals Coventry scored were tactical: transitional goals, a common theme of ETH. Similar goals were conceded in almost every match. The Forest game (away) was a good example. Almost identical: transition, midfielders not coming back in time, cut back, scoring around the box.
    3. ETH then subbed the wrong players on: United was being made worse by subbing Garnacho (the most creative outlet) and Mainoo (the most anti-press and dynamic midfielder) and replacing them with Antony and Eriksen. The latter two were particularly prone to transitional football (Antony, slow, and Eriksen, even slower - how could they play transitional football?! And btw, Antony's rush shot led to the transition that Coventry scored their second goal). Playing AWB as LB also partly explained his discomfort, as well as why he conceded the penalty. And the final 20 mins and 30 mins of extra time? Coventry was clearly the better team in transitional play, as United was tired, mentally off, and had the wrong set of players to play in the tactical formation they weren't supposed to play.
What does point 1-3 suggest? It was wrong to say that the players (such as Eriksen) should take a bigger share of the blame. From the tactical setup, it was almost doomed to fail like the Copenhagen game. And in fact, you can say that Coventry could actually win the match if they played high-pressing in the first half. And ETH's in-game management was horrible.

I've been wanting to keep the faith with ETH for one more season with a full squad of players that he bought, But whatever patience I had left before Sun I'm really down to me last straw now.. I still believe he's never had a full squad of players he bought and not inherited so for that reason I'd still give him another season, He's not had the squad of his choice and that has prevented him from playing his brand of football which in turn prevents our identity.. He did a massive job at Ajax and that's the style he wants at utd...

Utter complacency from ETH, taking Mainoo and Garnacho off! The fact seems to have been missed from the total overreaction after the game though that before that, we were in complete control for 70 mins and its Coventry who were lucky to get to extra time. They got a huge deflection and a disgraceful penalty decision, to take the game to extra time. If those 2 huge strokes of luck hadn't gone for them, we're sat here talking about a straightforward 3-1 win!

Every manager before Erik, and every manager after Erik have had and will have an easier job than him. The lack of grace in this fan base is unserious to me. You’re slowing recovery down by further pulling the rug from under this fragile foundation. The difference with this man is that he’s not papered over cracks with his style of play. He takes the risks, he shows the attacking style he wants to play, he puts responsibility on his players and protects them when they fail on their learning curve. He’s an exemplary man and I’m very disappointed in all the fan channels for their lack of character here. Where’s Joe when you need him? The United View’s Marcel and KG are just about the only ones left that haven’t lost their heads.

We even make teams from lower leagues look like champions league winning teams. We have no bottle, no cohesion and no character. Bruno, mainoo and onana are the only players that look like they deserve to stay at united. 10bob doesnt seem to even have a plan A let alone a plan B. I know the manager isnt the one on the pitch performing badly but he clearly doesn't understand how to win in the Premier league and doesnt understand how to get anything from most of his players. I can't defend him any more. 10bob out.

Sorry Eric, but you are no longer convincing me you are the right person to manage Man Utd. Having said that, I certainly don't want to see Southgate here.

The only way I can see ETH surviving the end of season sacking is if INEOS feel like they have other areas they neeed to concentrate on fixing before they make a decision on the type of manager they want, If Coventry performance was in a bubble I don't think it would have mattered, but this is the 4th bad performance in the last five games (and we were no great for large parts of the Liverpool game either).
There is also the situation with injuries, unlike Glazers, INEOS will look deeper into this, and if it's the case that ETH is over working the team this late in the season, this won't help his cause either.

Ineos will give him the players he needs and the first 6 months of next season. If by then he doesn't deliver, he'll get sacked.
His game management is atrocious. Playing the clock with 20 minutes left is insanely risky. Even teams who are good at keeping possession know it's looking for trouble lifting off with 20 minutes left to play. Utd lose the ball too easily under the slightest pressure.
Toxic players need to be sold. New technically good CBs, 1 commanding CDM, complete medical staff overhaul. That's the minimum that needs to change for next season otherwise it will be the same story again..
