    Joaquim Serra representa un caso de un compositor vernáculo que también componía en idioma culto. Generalmente componía para el ensamble de alientos cobla, típico de la zona de Cataluña y que toca danzas y sones populares. No obstante, también Serra produjo obras exclusivamente para orquesta sinfónica, si bien son escasas. Sus dos bosquejos para orquesta, ambos compuestos de forma separada en 1954, nos ofrecen retratos musicales españoles de antaño con coloridos sinfónicos típicos del nacionalismo español.
    Joaquim Serra was a composer who wrote originally popular music but also in a more artistic vein. He generally composed for the Catalonian traditional wind ensemble called cobla, which plays traditional songs and dances. However, Serra also produced works exclusively for orchestra, while rather scarce in his output. His Two Sketches for orchestra, separately composed in 1954, offer us musical portraits of Spain in the olden days while using symphonic colors akin to Spanish nationalism.

    In the past 2 weeks I had the CD in my car and played it every single time I took a ride. I am totally addicted to this composer. What a joy to listen to!!

      @@past_notes2322 A bit late. I bought the CD in Ottawa, Canada, in 2007, but forgot all about it (I have a sizeble collection, if I may say so (approx. 1200). Then, I discovered it, played it a few times, and the rest is history, haha. Even now, I listen to the entire CD, which is on YT premium (I have that, at 12 Euros a month it's well worth it!) without Ads at the Gym when I do my workout.
