The wind was insane and totally unexpected. I know someone who lost their home in the fire. Hope that everything can get under control… and the fact that this happened right before New Years and after the holidays was devastating.
I'm in Lafayette. Did a square drive: from Baseline to south Boulder road and then up to Courtesy Dr. It's blocked off at Courtesy, and sure enough you can see a huge flame just over the hill a little ways... I was driving to Boulder right as it all started. The insane winds were the first thing I noticed. It blew a couple semis over in Boulder. Then I saw a huge fireball and massive plume of smoke to my left- thought a plane had crashed... Just absolutely nuts. Stay safe everyone!
These horrible and devastating Colorado fires started as grass fires and fueled rapidly by 100 mile winds. This was not just out in an open field, but in suburbs with homes, hotels, shopping centers, grocery stores, etc. Imagine going into town on a beautiful day to do your grocery shopping to get ready for the New Year's week-end. While buying your groceries, you are ordered to evacuate IMMEDIATELY and not allowed to go back to your home, but just to get out as fast as you can from the fires. And, the whole time you are devastated about your family member(s) back at home or pets and there is no way you can save them and knowing your home is literally being burned down to the ground. All of your pictures, family heirlooms, your computer files, important papers, etc. ... just gone. Other things can be replaced but not your family, pets and family momentos.
Visibility looks horrible in this. I guess some portion of the vehicles had GPS navigation and if you don't, better hope you chose the right guys to follow.

I was wondering WTF why are they shopping while a firestorm is approaching, but a sudden and unexpected flare up makes sense. Wildfires can and do produce hurricane force winds, and it's likely it went from the flames being at a far distance to being on top of them in minutes.
I saw this fire earlier today when it had just started near 36 and South Boulder and I just thought it was controlled ditch burning or something. Then I thought, in this wind, who would burn a ditch today?! 20 mins later I knew for sure it was serious after seeing dozens of emergency vehicles racing to HWY 36. Same. We were at S Broadway and Marshall Road around 11am and had to drive over a downed power line and saw the fire just starting next to the road. Could not have imagined it would lead to what it is. 😢

This is what happens when shopping centers and tract homes are developed in areas that have always been windy. -and often very dry. I know, because I’ve been there. And no, it’s not climate change, it’s the way it’s been weather-wise and terrain-wise ever since God knows when. What do you expect inevitably to occur when humans encroach on places they never should live in, whether it’s a flood-prone area in Texas (see Houston) or a super-windy part of Colorado (see Denver’s NW suburbs and Boulder)?
I've lived in both denver and SE Texas for over 30 years, been through wildfire evacs in Evergreen and been through 8+ hurricanes and tropical storms including Alison, Rita, Ike, Humberto, Harvey and Imelda, Laura, and Delta. 60" in 5 days in Harvey here in Nederland, Tx breaking every rainfall record on the books, Imelda peaked at 5" an hour for 4 straight hours forcing water into homes that sat on a dry street just hours before maxing out at 48" in 48 hours. 48!!! NO, this is not nonsense, it's definitely fueled by climate change. Flood plain boundaries have been moved to north of I-10 now into areas never ever considered before. Arid areas were fertile only decades ago. Whole lakes are evaporating, never to return but please babble on how that's Ll in our heads. My husband is a first responder who's had to work through these disasters while losing everything so please do not speak until you've faced this level of loss. We had a foot of water on my street in minutes due to unseen heavy rain that never let up. My hometown in Michigan never flooded, my dad a 30 year veteran coast guard commodore on the great lakes never once did a rescue on a ROAD, yet now? That's a normal thing in urban Michigan towns, boats on flooded roadways rescuing people. You come to SE Texas or face to face with the victims of these fires and say it's nonsense and victim shame and you'll get your ass handed to you buddy. I'm sure 118f in Canada and hundreds dead while fish died by the thousands this summer is normal too..as are the elevated ocean temps fueling these weather patterns bringing extreme weather. Maybe you can drive to the plains states and shame them all for living in tornado alley. Tornadoes in December due to extreme temperature differences and severe weather are NOT normal, nor were they EVER. Ignorance is bliss, I suppose people like you pretend it's not a problem as a way of not having to deal with it. Coast to Coast is effected, with 1000 year storms hitting us every few months. Wake up...and smell the burnt timber, mold from floods, maybe you can find some empathy and compassion ffs!! The only thing worse than climate change is the arsehole deniers...but to victim blame makes you a see you next Tuesday kind of special.

Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. BUT WHEN YOU PRAY GO INTO YOUR ROOM, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
This, then, is how you should pray:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.
For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

These are the teachings,
The Righteousness of our Lord Jesus Christ our God.
REPENT, and start doing what is right.
If you abide my teachings, you are really my disciples; then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in Truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.
GOD IS SPIRIT so his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in Truth.
In the New Heaven and the New Earth,
only Righteousness dwells.
May the Spirit of our Lord Jesus Christ our God be with you all.

Lol
Where in Paradise do you live? Tell us now!!
They had it coming
Apocalypse
Mannnnn
it's just funny to me.
