    I'm all about reintroducing wolves to the Adirondacks.

      The prey can't sustain wolves right now unfortunately. From the time wolves disappeared, the ecosystem has changed. There's not enough deer or moose to sustain a pack.

      @@Leafy17 jeesh. In that case, nevermind. Basically, people would have to back off hunting. The Adirondacks are loaded with hunters. That can't help.

    My mom swears she saw a pitch black wolf on our property in long lake NY, just last year. She said it stopped for a moment to take a piss on a near by tree before wandering off again. She said she went to grab her phone but by the time she returned to the window, it was gone.
    Later on in the day, our dog was sniffing that tree like crazy. He wouldn't leave it alone.

    We saw a mostly black one with a little gray on it on Labor Day weekend in Oswego County. It ran across the road about 40 yards in front of us in full daylight. It was definitely a wolf, it had long legs and it had a long stride. It had a nice square head with a thinner summer coat, I’d guess around 80ish pounds or more. It was a awesome sight. It only lasted a few seconds. I’ve seen tons of coyotes and this was not one, nor a domesticated dog.

    I believe a few wolves are back in The Northern Adirondacks that came from Canada. 10 have tested over 90% wolf/ coyote. However. The Adirondack white tail deer population is very low because unsuitable habitat and harsh winter weather. This has allowed the Moose to establish a fragile population since deer carry a parasite that kills the Moose. Wolves coming back in number could devastate an already fragile Moose population. They are already creating population problems where thier numbers were not kept in check in British Columbia ( causing the near extinction of mountain Caribou) Michigan and in Montana. Coywolves are already all the predator the Adirondacks need I believe. Wolves don't kill bulls only like hunters can. But Cows and especially calves. Pro or con doesn't matter. They are already here .

    • @boblove6865
      @boblove6865 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea you are right about the prey population and the Adirondacks can not handle an Apex predator like the wolf. I believe a few are here but there just simply not enough food source for silly ideas like reintroduction.

      @@coondogsoutdooradventures2484 I live in Western NY so it's not a far drive and have spent many a day in the North. I would love to have a sustainable wolf population but is truly not feasible. It would knock down the yotes a bit which wouldn't be a bad thing but they will kill much more big game than any yote so we really can't win. I say let it be and see what happens.

      Wolves and moose are both native to the Adirondacks. They coevolved to regulate each other's populations (an ecological concept known as Predator-Prey Arms Race). What you're doing is prioritizing one species to the complete detriment of the other.

    • @coondogsoutdooradventures2484
      @coondogsoutdooradventures2484 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@quandoquandoquando2018 absolutely . Conservation, as imperfect as it is regulates population way better than predators. There is no balance. It is cyclical at best. Wolves don't take bulls only when the population is threatened. I would rather have Conservation control both species so hunter and Fishers who almost entirely fund the NYS Conservation would have first Crack at game species like Moose. This is the method that has saved endangered species around the world because it has the money to protect and manage species better than any other way.

    Nice to love wolves, but your deer population in the Adirondacks is not a problem! Coyotes can easily kill off all the deer on any given valley or mountain if and when the snow reaches 18 inches maximum. Beaver , are taken care of by coyotes and other predators. Put and attempt to beep them in the southern zone, watch your livestock die quickly. Check with Alaska! Home owners will loose their pet population. Check with Alaska and or the Upper Peninsula! Take a trip, read the reports, check the actual Encon concerns. Alaska, was the funniest effort to raise live stock at the taxpayers expense! U tube any hunting or living natives in those areas especially the U P. Any pets are eliminated if kept housed or run out side. My gosh this is the Information Age don’t waste it !

      They are already here one was shot by a hunter who thought it was a large Coyote in Otsego County, DEC denies it and says after testing it was a hybrid of coyote wolf and dog but refused to release the paper work for others to review the DNA test. Well two other organizations conducted testing found out it was 98% wolf another article I found, sample sent to Princeton University came back as a male wolf.
      We need wolves as a ranch hand in upstate I'd like to see them back, I think people are too scared of animals, man up their animals and learn how to live in nature don't be an moron like those in yellow stone who decide to pet a bison
