    I'm a 45 year old single mother of 3 (now married 6/12/19) and on 2/15/16 I found out that I had HIV. This is my story about how I contracted it, how I survived AIDS and how I live my life today with HIV.
    I originally put this video out for my Facebook friends, I had no idea it would get this king of attention. Every day is a new adventure on this new journey of TH-cam and my story. I'm excited to be alive, excited to take this ride and excited to take you all along with me.
    Please SUBSCRIBE, LIKE and COMMENT on my videos. I read ALL my comments and respond to MANY. I will be doing more videos as long as there is interest Thank you so much for your continued support. :-)

    I got diagnosed with hiv a week before my 21 st birthday. And all because I trusted someone that I shouldn’t have. I was absolutely devastated I felt like my youth was taken away from me but at the end of the day I don’t blame the person who gave it to me because at the end of the day it was my fault. I could always tell him that it was either condoms or no sex but I didn’t. Long story short i was very close to getting aids but thankfully I am now fine thanks to modern medicine and I am living a perfectly normal life

    You won't believe what brought me here. I'm an African lady from Kenya currently doing PhD in Design, I was looking for a certain Kenyan advert on HIV/AIDs that was banned because the subject matter was on married women having extra marital affairs being advised to use condoms and so that's how I ended up here. I'd like to THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing your story, many people don't quite understand that HIV is not prejudistic nor an illness, anyone can get it even newborns so it doesn't warrant being JUDGED for being positive. Me being of African origin, I would like to thank you for sharing it as a White woman especially in the USA. I understand over there it's usually stigmatized to the Black community like it's the devil or something but you have shown the white community that it's not the devil they imagine it to be and it's just not a Black 'thing' but an EVERYONE'S concern. I'm seeing some people on the comments section whom I'll just refer to as ignoramus idiots who still don't understand much about HIV/AIDs especially in this world of technology and what not, more so especially in the USA. They are the ones with an illness not you. You are healthy and happy and living life, as odd as this sounds I think the condition gave you life as opposed to taking it away, as people tend to think. Keep on staying strong and beautiful and keep your light shining and teach your kids and your kid's friends about HIV/AIDs and to love all humanity despite their 'ugliness' or what the world views us 'ugly'. May God continue to add to your days . You shall surely live forever. Thank you for sharing

It's a GOOD thing that people are terrified of AIDS, just because there are advances in medication now, doesn't make it any less deadly. That's like saying people shouldn't be terrified of cancer, just because of new meds. AIDS has a bad stigma because its deadly and permanent. And you can still transmit HIV, even with "undetectable numbers". Also, Cancer goes into remission as well, but its not something you ever want to have to go through, and no one will ever say cancer is "no big deal." All deadly diseases are a big deal

      An antibody test will always show a positive. My viral load test doesn’t look for positive or negative, it only looks for copies of the virus. My tests say “not detected” now which is basically a negative, but the results are never written like that. If I stopped my meds, the virus would wake up and begin to replicate and I would no longer be undetectable.

HIV is no longer a life sentence if you’re lucky to get treatment HOWEVER it is a big deal. It’s a disease that’s with you for life, you can’t cure it (as of now) and have to follow treatment for the rest of your life and the slightest chance in following treatment can cause a downward spiral. There are a lot of people in these comments who aren't HIV+ trying to dictate how you're allowed to feel about your status and how you're allowed to educate about it. Stay in your lane, people. I guarantee she knows more about what she's talking about than you. They especially seem to be getting hung up on the "not a big deal" thing when the whole quote was actually "Everybody else was holding on to the hope that maybe it was something else because everyone thought HIV would be the worst thing possible. Turns out, it is not. It's actually not even a big deal..." Factually, being HIV+ in a country like the US when you have access to medical care isn't a big deal. It's like people want HIV to continue being stigmatized and seen as a death sentence. There are hundreds of other diseases that are worse to have but because of all the fear mongering out there, people wrongly think that HIV is at the top and it scares the shit out of them to even consider the possibility that they might be positive. That fear paralyzes people and prevents them from getting tested as soon as possible.

      @Laith. Thanks for saving me from myself and writing a long-winded answer. Geez, so many people focusing on the "no big deal" comment to get on their soap box. She did this pretty much unrehearsed. Unlike other vloggers, bloggers, etc who write their whole story in advance. This style is more honest and genuine.
      The only part that I would comment on is when she talked about her viral load being so low that it's like she doesn't have it. It should be phrased differently since she does still have HIV and without anti-retrovirals the viral load can increase to dangerous levels again that can threaten her life and put others at risk without proper protection.
      There is treatment but there is no cure for HIV. Again, she was not rehearsing any of this so it's understandable.

BUT this is not true b/c the meds have severe side effects AND also i know someone who was HIV poz and couldn't take any of the meds b/c she was allergic to all of them they tried on her and now she is gone. HIV is now manageable akin 2 diabetes...but it still is a challenge everyday and i am in awe of the courage and generosity displayed by these people sharing their story! thank u and God bless you!

    I respect your story but please don’t tell people “it’s not a big deal”. I work as an escort and this fear is present everyday along with every other STI. The amount of sexual ignorance I have to deal with is SHOCKING. The amount of risk that men are willing to take with people they don’t know for sexual gratification is SHOCKING!!!! Do not just trust a man in any capacity to be educated on sexual health when it is your body to protect. As a female it is so much easier for us to get HIV and STIs and deal with the consequences. I wouldn’t even trust bf’s, fiancés, or husbands anymore with the amount that cheat. I’d suggest getting tested consistently and being active in protecting yourself sexually every single day.

      @theweirdo8622 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It seems like there's a lot of misunderstanding on TH-cam comments/the Internet and the way that notifications work make things confusing.
      I get a lot of flak sometimes because I am misunderstood all the time and I have to try and explain myself for hours.
      It's cool that you are an escort. I have thought about it but I wouldn't be able to separate feelings from the acts. My mother would also disown me. She called me a whore when I lost my virginity (and it wasn't 100% consensual anyway).
      It also takes a bit of courage to be a sex worker because even if you vet your clients it can still be somewhat dangerous and there is a huge stigma against sex workers. I have to admit that I have thought sometimes that there were workers who could have been in trouble. I do know that sex work is often a personal and conscious decision though.
      Anyway, some people here are saying that everyone knows about the risk of HIV and other diseases but that's a lie. Not everyone knows considering how bad sexual education tends to be in most countries and even if they do know, they might think it won't happen to them.
      I am not condemning casual sex but it is something I found out I don't really like and it does bring risk. Nowadays a lot of people use Tinder and due to pressures from their intimate partners they end up not protecting themselves. Pornography also shows bareback/unsafe practices and that can be harmful too.
      I am 20 years old and a lot of people my age end up learning about sex via porn because their school and/or parents don't talk about the topic. My mother never talked to me about sex openly until I was like 18.
      I am also a gay transgender man and I have noticed that a lot of gay and bi men are into cruising/pick ups and that is also a problem because during the heat of the moment, a condom might not be used.
      People need to be safe.
      I have been abused several times and I had a fake relationship with an abusive man last year and I am worried. I want to get tested. It doesn't help that I already have some health problems and my immune system sucks.

    Your story came up on my suggestions feed and I thankfully clicked on it. I don't have HIV/AIDS, rather, am suffering effects of a prolapsed disc including left-sided neuropathy, muscle weakness, and terrible leg pain pain - all of which are terrible in the moment but almost completely irreversible with the right care. I want to say that this video really put my ass into place and a serious damper on my pity party. I find myself complaining about getting older (thirty-five) and having this new ailment. Then I look at you, your age, health history, and the choice to see things as you do.. it really puts things in perspective. You remind me that how I feel is a choice, not an involuntary outcome. I personally think you give your doctors and medications too much credit for where you are today. I think the majority of your good health and feeling great comes from your outlook on life and the inner strength and resilience that is so clearly evident. I can only hope to wear a similar strength in ten years when I am forty-five. Your wear that number so amazingly well and it makes me look forward to it. Thanks for the videos and more importantly, thank you for sharing your story and inspiring so many with AND without HIV/AIDS.

    You are amazing for sharing your story...People are so misinformed of this disease...thank you for sharing God Bless you and your boyfriend for being so supportive💗also a lot of your symptoms are also symptoms of lupus because of it being an autoimmune disease...something I'm fighting but my mom has been fighting it for so many years now and the difference in the medication itself is remarkable....keep educating💗

    I feel bad this happened to you but I am glad you survived. You seem like a really nice and sound person. It seems unfair that some people get exposed to HIV while others do not for no explicable reason. I lead a careless lifestyle in my youth that should have exposed me the virus but it did not. Anyway, thank you for sharing your story.

    I don’t believe she is minimizing the fact that she has HIV by saying it is “no big deal”. Of course we should continue to be educated about all stds. We have advanced over the last 30 years in regards to learning about it, and creating medication where people will survive and HIV won’t be a death sentence anymore. Everyone’s journey in life will always be their own journey. Don’t judge someone for their struggles, fears or need to share their stories. Empathy goes a long way.

      It's so weird that it wasn't done. I went for a checkup a few months ago and mentioned a few brown spots on my feet and the Dr. was like "let's just run a full std test" :s This lady had so many symptoms and had to reach to death's bed before she was tested. It's like the doctors were actually playing into the stigma that HIV has a face and she doesn't have that face. smh

      @thenobleandmightybeaver4411 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Doctors are often reticent to give people HIV tests to people who don't fit the typical profile because it can affect your health and life insurance. The best thing you can do is to go to an anonymous HIV/AIDS testing facility as insurance companies can't trace you. Ultimately, if you have engaged in unprotected sex or IV drug use you should have yourself tested. The best thing to do if you have or may have been exposed is to go on Post Exposure Prophylactic meds. That is entirely up to the patient though because you need to start that regimen within 72 hours of exposure.

    • @thenobleandmightybeaver4411

      TH-camSearch ToxicVaccines ToxicFluoride, HIV HOAX Why don't you go get HIV and then report back to us about how innocuous it is. Without antiretrovirals your life expectancy is about 2 years. And it will be a horrible 2 years at that.
      Do you know what the HIV/AIDS acronyms break out to. Hint, when people die after going into full blown AIDS it is from a secondary infection because they have a non-functioning immune system.

    Jennifer I can't believe you got as far as the AIDS stage and pneumonia and came back from that to be the healthy woman I see in the video today - absolutely amazing story and with the amount of views your videos have, you can bet you've raised so much awareness and helped to save lives.... you really went to the brink and came back, I can't believe how long you went undiagnosed!! My uncle is a gay man and has had HIV for 20 years and he is fine. I have a lot of conversations with my best friend (also a gay guy :-)) about HIV because he does NOT have HIV but he wants to have unprotected sex with lots of partners, some of the guys he dates have HIV and he is on a medication that apparently blocks the virus. So I know that it's a tricky virus with lots of strains (tricky because I know of 1 guy who is HIV positive but shows no symptoms, never has and does not take medication) and I also know that it's not as big a deal as people make of it (unless it's untreated of course)... and I do know that something like Hep C is a lot worse to have than HIV. Anyway thank you and God bless, you are amazing xx

    You are such an inspiration to so many people! HIV positive or not! Education is key and I think everyone should be aware and taught about HIV in schools. Stigma stems from ignorance and fear! I am HIV negative and have recently began taking PrEP for added protection as I fall into a high risk Group. after watching all the videos I think a video about PrEP would be amazing as a prevention option as I still think many people aren’t aware of its benefits or that its a real thing..Thank you for being so open with your story it’s such a brave and amazing thing you are doing. Im so sorry it took Dr's so long to figure this out. My mother died from AIDES. It was a surprise. noone knee she had it. she wasn't taking any medication for it. she dated a man when I was 9, he didn't tell her he was positive. Eventually she figured it out, he passed away. Supposedly she was getting tested for years and always tested negative. She ended up getting pneumonia when I was 23 and passed away. That's when the family found out from the hospital she had AIDES. It was a shocker for me. she wasn't on any medication. I can't see my mother having Aides and not taking medication to live. I was her only child. I still can't wrap my head around this and its been 11 years.
