    hello sir, thanks a lot for your help. I tried to solve this problem many months ago but didn't get the explanation. now that I have to re-study from the very begging, I think I finally understood: we add all the other cubes to make the whole figure symmetrical, don't we? let me know if I'm right and sorry for the stupid question.

      Alessia Crea yes we add up the cubes to create a symmetrical set up. This allows us to divide the total flux by 24 to find the amount of flux going through one of the smaller square panes of the larger cube.
