  • Episode 49 As You Like It - The Stratford upon Avon Canal - part one
    In part one Tales From The Swan’s Neck takes Narrowboat Reverie the 25 miles and 53 locks from King’s Norton in Birmingham, to the canal terminus at Bancroft Basin in Stratford upon Avon. Black water and graffiti makes way for a more genteel and rural landscape. Along the way Andrew has a close encounter with a draw-bridge, meets some stiff opposition, two types of rollers, and comes across one of the network’s more interesting canal junctions.

    Yes I think Kingswood is very very pretty Andrew. I was just thinking how nice it would be to live with that view and wondering if the people living on the canal did anything else but gaze out at the window all day at the view when you pointed out the one for sale. In my dreams ha ha !!

    • @talesfromtheswansneck
      @talesfromtheswansneck  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Alison, people who gaze idly at the canals are called gongoozlers - yes there is such a word, it's the dictionary - they are usually to be found on bridges junctions. I suppose some may even buy canalside houses.

    Hi Andrew , My favourite junctions are Hurleston Junction closely followed by Barbrigde Junction. Your funniest one liners, Blimey you won't miss the women around here, referring to the bright tops the three different women had on from your Trevor to Llangollen Vlogg, then the best - £25 for a haircut I mean what planet are these people on, your Vlogg coming out of Middlewich.. Im still laugh now when I see these Vloggs 😀 take care Pal , Simon

      Simon, thank you so much, I'm glad some people at least get my sense of humour. One person took extreme umbrage at my comment about the bright coloured tops the women were wearing.

    Hi Andrew, You a sceptic! Lovely calming vid as per. I bet Daybreak made the the heart skip a beat!
    You take care and I was thinking maybe a collie would be a good companion as a sea dog for you?
    Take care and if you can’t consult the book I sent.

      Me, a sceptic? Narrowboat Daybreak - I went back at night and crossed it out and renamed it Jouney! As for a collie, nice dogs but I don't fancy picking up the poo!

      Hi Lionel, It was filmed mid May - I cut out the bit where I was whinging about the state of the towpath. I don't know which country you're from, but apparently this is the bleakest summer we've experienced (so far) since 1954. Oh for a bit of sun and blue sky.

    Wow Wow Wow ! How is it possible I've been watching Narrowboat videos for three years now, and have only just stumbled upon yours !!! ??? You Sir, are guilty of easily producing videos in the upper 3% ! Your Narration and Photography are simply unparalleled to most anything out there and I'm left to wonder . . . are you simply a natural at this, or in your past lifetime, were you working for the BBC ? I just love your style, editing, and unhurried way of revealing a story, a story which pertains to this particular location, this canal. You strike me as a cross between David Johns (Narration) and Colin from Foxes Afloat (Research). To say that waTCHING THIS WAS A REAL TREAT, DOESN'T EVEN BEGIN TO COVER IT and I have placed an icon on my desktop for easy access to your channel. I especially loved how much time you took in photographing Kingswood Junction, I was just drooling over the house for sale there. Thank you Andrew so very much for this treasured experience, I am your newest fan. Wishing you all the Very Best from Avondale, Arizona.

      Wow Michael, thanks so much, I'll take that. Praise indeed. I was a stills photographer in my former life, and latterly taught film-making to people with learning disabilities. I so wish I could have filmed Kingswood from the boat but weather prevented this, and I went back (on foot) the following morning and was still disappointed with the weather, but at least it was dry. It is a fabulous place. I'm pleased you enjoyed it.

      @@talesfromtheswansneck Clearly Andrew, you possess a great deal of talent and experience when it comes to film-making. I think those students you taught were very lucky indeed, to have you as their mentor and instructor. And . . . it is not just the photography which is exceptional, it is also the narration and research. You truly are giving David from Cruising the Cut a real run for his money. David has produced a few OUTSTANDING documentary videos, I especially enjoyed vlog 187 he did regarding the restoration work on the Litchfield Canal. I feel that your work is every bit as exceptional as David's, and I hope that is a compliment. I look forward to viewing your entire catalog. I wish all the very best Andrew, bless you and yours.

    Dickens Heath is relatively rough. The Italian square bit with the water cascade is just normal flats. I think the plan was tom have cafes and bars there but that never took off no now It's a few offices and a nursery.
    Hockley Heath is definitely not a footballers village, it's just where all the footballers drive through on their way to Lapworth & Tanworth in Arden.
