I really liked 'Zorba the Greek', a movie which I saw in about 1965. I thought that the Greek dance music was brilliant, something I never forgot. The zither is quite an instrument.
I'm not an expert on Greek music... but I'm fairly sure there are is no zither in this. It starts with guitar accompaniment, then the melody comes in, on one or more bouzoukis. I copletely agree with you about how brilliant this music is, and about how enjoyable the Zorba movie is.
I can not nor will I ever wish blessings on The Turks for they murdered my fiance's father's family while he was earning money to send back to his family in Greece. One day all of his posts were returned to him. He finally contacted relatives in Greece and they told him the Turks invaded and slaughtered his whole family and threw their bodies off the village bridge and not to return, ever! 😢 The horror!
