    That's how I tune, by ear. Along with other little adjustment methods, even like this video. I make my own coils, I would have just tossed the coil out after damage, but this way will save me time, supplies and money. Thanks too much man.

    they are easy to fix, mine did the same thing fixed it by slicing a tiny slit by where the wire comes through, fished it out pulled out a little extra, grabbed thermostat wire, a crimp put the thermo wire through the hole, close to the other wire with enough play to crimp an lay down to tape back to side. fixed works better than before. now as far as back wire, haven't got there yet hasn't happened to me. but I'm sure I could figure that out too. one thing tho b it's hard on the eyes lol

    What purposes do triple coil machines have? Is it just mainly speed/strength of armature bar moving needle? Or just used for larger needle groupings?

    Hi can you just put clear shrink wrap on to see the coil wire to see the copper for a different look ?

    hey buddy I got a quick question for ya. and I hope all is well. The washers that go on top of the coils? they sell plastic and metal ones now my question is which would be better? Also I am learning how to wrap coils with my new wire spooling machine I have got , but do you have any suggestions on a personally made add on I can use to run the wire through to make the tension tighter when I wrap it? because all I can do is run the wire from the spool of wire to the coil on the machine and it is hard to keep good tension to make my wraps as tight as possible. I also want to thankyou for all you do, I am in the process of watching all of your videos and I have learned so much and your awesome at explaining things perfectly. Thank you so much nobody give out information in this industry which I think sucks but you have been a life saver.

      Where are you seeing the metal washers? Do you have a link to them? I usually try to avoid anything metal near the wire. This way there isn't anything that can accidently ground out the machine. Mostly I see the plastic washers or other materials. I haven't gone into making my own coils, yet. It has been too easy for me to buy coils. Everyone seems to be making them now, so it just hasn't been a priority for me. I've been reading books on the subject and it has made me curious. Usually when I get curious enough I start messing with it. I think my next purchase will be some equipment for building coils. I have some ideas for making coils work better and would love to test it out. What I do is test out everything. If you want to see what works better try it. I've learned a lot of things from trial and error. I would just avoid that wire touching anything metal. Even the core is insulated from the wire. As far as the tension I've seen a lot of things. Depends on the rig you have. What I see mostly is that people double back the wire. Usually they use a door stopper on the wire spool to tighten it up. Then there are a couple of pullies that allow the wire to double back. This way it puts more resistance on the wire instead of being a straight shot to the pulley.

      Oh okay I gotcha. Thanks for the response man! Do you have any recommendations on the best place to get tattoo machine parts? like coils, washers, Springs, etc?

    • @TattooUniversity
      @TattooUniversity  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dan Mitch Have someone make them for you. Every place is different and prices are different depending on where you live. I wouldn't say one place is the best. What works for me might not be what you like. Also I order from different places. I don't buy everything from the same place. Usually I buy my ink from Joker because they are down the street from me and their ink prices are good. I wouldn't buy a machine from them because they are too expensive for junk machines. It is just convenient for me to go there instead of ordering it. They deliver equipment to the shops. That way is just convenient so I get it that way. I get some spring stock from where it is cheap and cut them out myself. You can order certain metal and specifications so it should be the same material at different places. The sell that stuff in strips for a ton of money. You would pay less buying a whole roll. That is what they are doing. Buying a roll and cutting it down to sell. I like someone's coils who is making them in the garage that is who I'm buying from. I want to support home builders who make good quality stuff. I just make sure where you buy from will pay you back if the item is junk. If they don't take returns I don't use them. This way I know I can send stuff back if I don't like it. If someone has good customer service I will use them. A lot of the time the equipment is crap and you have to fix it or send it back.

      Tattoo University yeah man I'm all about supporting home builders too. I don't want to buy anything mass produced but it is hard to find machine building parts from just a single home builder. they are hard to find so I was just wondering if you knew of any good company's that sell all the equipment for building a machine because I am getting into machine building and want to find a good place where I can constantly but machine parts and that are reliable

    • @docholiday7973
      @docholiday7973 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      also I think my biggest problem is that I can't get certain stuff because companies will not sell it to you if you don't have proof that you work in a shop which I think sucks. I've seen people that tattoo starting off at home without an apprentice ship that are better than people that have been working in a shop for 10 years.

    Could you possibly use hot glue to cover the exposed wire instead of shrink wrap, doing it with electric tape seems like a Hassel to me and isn't as clean looking

    • @TattooUniversity
      @TattooUniversity  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't use hot glue, but you can use clear silicone.

    • @TattooUniversity
      @TattooUniversity  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you need to adjust it would be harder to remove the glue. Silicone will come off if you need it to. Hot glue could work but I would go with silicone

      Amanda Kimery I've used liquid electrical tape works great! it brushes on and dries quick peels off clean if need be, dries flat black soft silicone feel & won't melt off w/heat or crack if cold. Amazing stuff! Ink on!

    what is the title to that video you have when you're tuning your machine with a sound device

    • @TattooUniversity
      @TattooUniversity  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have to reload that one. I was showing that this was a theory. I'm not sure if that is really a good way to tune your machine. I will repost.

      I'll put it back up. Still looking into it. I don't think you can use this method to tune your machine. It makes a good point. You need to listen to your machine to tell how its running. I can hear a machine that isn't running correctly.

      It's difficult to explain everything, run a camera, and fix equipment at the same time. One of these days I will try and go back and fix some of the older videos I did.
