Jason, you have my complete admiration for the variety of ideas and knowledge you display as you make improvements on your homestead. You show that you have thought out the "problem" and designed an innovative solution for it. Bravo! You're a handy man to have around. Congratulations to Lorraine and Penelope!

Nice setup. I used an ibc tote! It’s perfect for a few birds or a whole bunch! Didn’t even glue the joints. That way I can disassemble it for winter

If you add a mesh top like on a rain barrel, it could be self-filling when it rains and pour water without removing the lid when it doesn't!

Good build. I do have one suggestion. Add a quick coupler at the bucket end of the hose that way you can disconnect and reconnect quickly and the threads will last longer. Less likely to eventually get stripped out. Otherwise great build.😃👍🐓🐓🐓

As I've been moving my meat birds this season, I decided to build a new tractor for the next round. One of the things I told myself to do was rigging a waterer that is mounted outside the pen instead of the usual in-pen waterer, because even with the waterer off the ground, they still manage to get it all nasty (and yesterday, one of them managed to poop in it). One of the ideas I had was a gravity-fed nipple waterer like this: they wouldn't be able to get gunk in it or knock it over and it would be accessible outside the pen for easy access for me for refills and cleaning. Thanks for helping my brain work to refine it a little!

Hey Jason, great design. We have made similar rabbit waterers with Dawson Family Farm buckets (lol). But our first attempt (chicken drinker) failed. Since then we have been successful with pig water barrels too. Going to use some of your ideas for this tractor waterer. We will add an umbrella and maybe an easy disconnect. This is a favorite! Good job J!

You did quite well. I've watched others build them and yours is slightly more complicated. Some attach the nipples directly to the sides or bottom of the buckets. Others make a long L shape of pvc. pipe. They glue the curved joint to two straight parts. Cap one end and install nipples, then secure it to the tractor ( hoop house) the longer piece is to fill it from, so it sticks up for that. God Bless

    Okay, thanks.
I was wondering how those worked. (Not the putting together, but I needed visual of the chickens drinking the water!)
I got this set to try, it is basically the same maybe more peices to them but the chicken nipples are still the same, even if they are made differently.)
I just couldn't figureout "how-they" would drink from it. In the description on Amazon, it didn't really explain how and all.. but at least I know now to they do it. So, thanks!
Oh, and thanks for showing how-to make that.. too! Thanks!
