I think that's actually a flat felled seam. French seams don't have that fold over and double row of top stitching. You sew wrong sides together, flip it and sew right sides together, enclosing the raw edges. No topstitching whatsoever.
What type of seam would you use for a car soft top in vinyl? Your videos inspired me to have a go at doing upholstery for my cyclekart, the seat turned out not too bad for my first attempt.

So, a French seam is a seam used to conceal the edges of both pieces of fabric, correct? But it’s also three stitched lines so it’s incredibly strong.
that's right
Thanks. great information..

Thank you for replying.
Hello, when would a lap seam be more appropriate to use than a regular seam? Since you mentioned a lap seam is stronger than a regular seam.
Normally the edge of a seat where the side meet the seat face or if you just want to have that kind of look to the seam
Interesting. So a regular seam with a double top stitch with reinforcement underneath it is just a regular seam with reinforcement?
Yes .

Wow 🤯 I did not know that. So many people in US are wrong
Not really sure any particular continent is to blame for this. LOL
