Like some Scythekicks shared in chat, I think it can help to remember and be able to recognize some common kanji or radicals (e.g. 家 for house, 物 for object; the three dots radical, which is related to water, for words like 泣く). That way, when you see these kanji, you can more easily infer what the entire word means (e.g. if it has 家 it might have something to do with house or family; 浮く, which also has the three water droplets radical, commonly means to float) or help remember the words better.
