Bikers Close Encounter with Bear in Glacier National Park

- Biking with a group of friends up Going-To-The-Sun road on May 27th 2018--bikes only during this time--we came across a yearling grizzly at about 10:40am. As the bear was ascending, one of our bikers was entering a blind corner. The biker kicked on the afterburners when the bear peeked over the edge. There was quite the audience of traffic on both sides of the corner. The bear hung out for a few minutes before scurrying off.
If you're curious the location is about 6.2 miles above The Loop, for those who are familiar.

Montana is BEAUTIFUL!
Remember folks, bear spray is important, preventative and often left in the car... Adventure safely.

That bear looked young. Im surprised the mother wasn't close‼️
I think the video was named wrong, the young griz is obviously blown away by the sight of this strange creature. And seemed to have an epiphany

We were definitely up quite a ways but I assure you she kicked it into high fight or flight gear when she caught eyes with it 😂

One time a few years back this happened to me in that very spot and I pedaled very fast and was very brave and the very bear (probably same bear but at this point not a yeerling at least 1.5yrs old given her size) anyway the bear saw me and probably smelled the wet salmon skin I keep in my front pocket for leave no trace purposes and then he went no way hes got a bazooka on his backpack I aint fing with him , so off he ran like a little bioch and then my wife thanked me later, if you know what I mean moral of the story is man is superior to nature, we have no natural weapons but we have minds which is powerful above all animals. Love Glacier.

a bear tried to out run my truck to cross and run up a hill to its left was 80 ft cliff..clocked it at 31 miles they can move down hill bike with good rider can barely exscape
No doubt, this guy scooted straight up the side of this mountain in seconds with no effort.
I prefer Bear Spray backed up by a .44Mag and a .300 Win Mag.
More power to you if you pack all that up over 11 miles *on a bike one way. Going to the sun would make you pay.

@@rkba4923 Same, I live in these mountains. I can tell you there is a stark difference between walking and biking.
@@TheMcgillicuttyman Wouldn't know. Not much of a biker unless it's a motorcycle and they tend to scare off game, lol.
Been there 3 times with the hope to spot a grizzly from afar. Biking Going to the Sun Road without vehicular traffic is the best but also very isolating.
